Yes it`s lots of fun
Yes it will work
Virtual console is a thing on the Wii where you can download older games from e.g. nes, megadrive, snes, n64 to your Wii internal storage and play them. Depending on age, they cost upto £7 for the n64 ones..You get them from the Shopping Channel on the Wii (you need the Wii connected to your broadband connection - it has built-in wi-fi.)

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Go for it! The Wii does so much more than just play games!

You can pay a mere £3.50 to get the Internet Channel and have full internet access on your Plasma telly (I am currently on my PC but frequently post on this forum from the Wii)

You can insert an SD Card to play back photos, movies and MP3 music through the Wii.

You can send and receive messages through it, just like email.

You can plug a USB Keyboard into it to type messages (but currently not to use online)

You can use the USB ports to charge your mobile, MP3 player or rechargeable Wiimote batteries.

And as for the Virtual Console, don`t get me started. I`ve got such classics as Mario Kart 64 (N64), Paper Mario (N64), Wave Race (N64), Super Mario Bros the Lost Levels (NES) and loads others that I have downloaded.

Plus of course you can play all Gamecube games on it too, as long as you get a Gamecube Controller and Memory Card.

It`s wicked. Best console ever. 8)

We (or should I say Wii) are thinking if getting one for the kids (us) for Christmas.

Are there any essential extras that you need to go with it, and how do you connect it to your TV? ATM the X box is using the component connection, we do have a spare HDMI, scart (non rgb), composite, VGA or S-video.

Suppose I could get a VGA cable for the X box to free up the component connection.

All the best

Gerald.

Extra remote, Extra nunchuck, as playing bowling and tennis, boxing is better with the extra remotes. The wii comes with a composite connection and scart adapter, though if a rgb scart or component connection which you will have to buy, will give you better colours/graphics depending on what type of tv you have.

It will move between 2 rooms, main has new 40" Samsung LCD the other has a 18 month old 32" Samsung LCD. Looks like it may be worth picking up a component cable.

All the best

Gerald.

nah, just get one of these...i have one and it works great.

it allows for (manual) switching between 3 component devices.

I owned one and just recently sold it.

It depends on so many factors as to whether it is right for you.

Personally, I found that it was more for kids than anything else, cheap yes - but essentially it’s a Gamecube with a fancy controller.

I bought a 360 and its much more for me, but like I said, it depends on the players. For the time I did have it (8 months), it was allot of fun (well, maybe more novelty), Zelda was amazing, sports was good for 10 mins.

The Wii channel idea is good, but currently full of rubbish channels, I mean, who wants to turn their Wii on to find the weather and news ( I got bored of this very quickly). The internet channel is the worst of all, slow and always have to zoom in to see, slow to type etc.

I am trying to be un-biased, like I said, it depends on the people who are going to play it, it’s a great cheap family console with some fairly cheap games, but it lacks the power of a 360 or PS3 and the games available on those that make it to the Wii are quite poor to say the least.

The best way to look at the Wii is not to compare it to the 360 or PS3, it’s a console in its own right and should really be viewed as such, get this in your head and make your decision, I am sure you wont go wrong.

That lot will do you for a good while :)
I`m still playing Wii Sports after having it since launch and Zelda will keep you very busy for a good few weeks. I`d recommend picking up Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy and Guitar Hero III when they come out in the next few weeks.
