Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions - Inital Thoughts?

Got mine today from Game.

Looks very good, but to me plays a bit Splinter Cell, with I loathed with a passion.

Graphically is is very good, doesnt come close to GOW, which is where I think it suffers a bit. There are some overly long cut scenes, which thankfully you can skip through.

It handles a little clunky if I am honest, requiring both analogue sticks to move around (like always) but you cant move as quickly as you can on other games.

Never got around to playing the demo, so this was a blind purchase for me. I am not sure that there is enough in this to be able to hold my attention like others have, or perhaps this is a quality game and I have been overly spoilt with GOW.

I probably wouldnt recommend this to just anyone, if, like me, you loved Gears, but hated Splinter Cell DA, then i would say save your money. If however, you loved both GOW and SC:DA then this would probably be an essential purchase.

6.5/10 for me on initial plays. I am sure that this may go up later, but doesnt quite have, dare I say it, the X factor for me

Got the game yesterday and absolutely love it. Already on mission 8 cos i can`t put it down, driving the wife crazy. I don`t find it sluggish at all, I changed the settings to speed up the reticule and I can`t complain one bit. Superb game looking forward to playing on live once I finish the single player mode.

I loved the single and multiplayer demos but can`t justify another shooter at present with so much mileage left in GoW and CoD3 errr and CoD2. GoW has set the bench mark now but when the sp demo came out all them months ago after E3 i thought it looked superb now since GoW it only looks better than average.

Hey NTG, how have you been getting along with lost planet? Now that you have the full game that is, and not the demo 8)

I really like it actually. Its a good old fashion `kill the f*** out of everything` shooter.

You slog through a level, then get to the boss, find the bosses weak point and attack it for massive damage. Its quite refreshing in a way. Patronising possibly, but when you say the movement was slow, you do know you can use the bumpers to make 90 degree quick turns?

So, yeah, I really like it. The graphics are f***ing amazing. In some ways better than Gears. The levels are huge and the draw distance is impressive. And the particle effects can be a bit too impressive. When you get a hammering the smoke billows around and you just think `What the f*** is going on?`.

Shouting `Come on WAYNE!` at the TV hasnt lost its novelty either.

So far, 8/10. Its not rocket science, but its good fun.

Edit: Had a quick look at the game compare on Xbox.com. Didnt you even finish the first level?

I got to the part where you take the walker through the snow, get out of the warehouse and have to shoot at three beasties. To be honest, I got really bored at that point at left it. Just wasnt what I hoped it would be..........

I can usually tell whether I am going to play a game after the first 10 mins. I didnt get into that, but I did really get into GRAW2 which is much more my style. I had the same reaction with Splinter Cell DA - didnt finish the first level, just swam about for a bit, got really bored and moved it on. I guess I should play the demo`s a little more first.

You probably should, because, for lost planet at least, the demo is pretty much the entire first level :D

Fwiw, I got to about there in the demo and gave up, but I thought `what the hell` and gave it a punt anyway. Glad I did because its a really good game.

I am sure at some point in the future this game will cross my path again, and I will have another look at it.

How did you get on with those scratchcards that i sent you? Any good?

Havent had the time to play with them, to be honest. I want to get through the lost planet single player first. I will probably just save them for a few PES sessions.

Fair do`s, havent been online myself for a week or so. all my gaming time is currently being spent trying to complete GRAW 2.

After that, i will intersperse a few PES6 games while tackling Battlefied 2 - Modern Combat. I keep trying to get into Oblivion, but am resisting it mentally until I have a week where time stands still for me -otherwise it will have me in its clutches and I shall never escape.
