Shawshank Widesceen from Cinema Club a CON????

I recently bought the Shawshank Redemption (double sided 4:3 one side and 16:9 the other) but the 16:9 version seems to just zoom in losing the top and bottom of the picture. Am I right. I would love to get the true widescreen version, any one know where to get it?

Amazon.com has it on region 1 with anamorphic widescreen!

Your right, the "16:9 Anamorphic" version on side B has been cropped! I`ve only just noticed myself, when i first saw the menu for side B I thought it was just zoomed in to save time etc, and thought nothing more when the film started because it looked alright.

It`s possible (although I`m not 100%) that Shashank was shot "open matte" and was cropped to 1.85:1 for theatrical presentation.

In this case the 16:9 (meaning anamorphic in this context) transfer on the R2 DVD is perfectly ok, as it`s showng the film as it appeared theatrically (in the 1.85:1 ratio).

The 4:3 option in this case is not "pan and scan" but open matte, so you`ll actually see more of the picture than with the widescreen version. Doesn`t mean there`s anything "missing" from the widescreen version - it wasn`t intended to be visible in the first place.
