WTF!!!! Paul W. S. (Resident Evil) Anderson to remake The Long Good Friday!!!!!

floyd_dylan (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 17th May 2007, 12:48

Classic British crime film The Long Good Friday is getting a Hollywood makeover in Miami under the direction of Resident Evil moviemaker Paul W. S. Anderson.

Production company Handmade Films says the new movie would be "refreshed" with a modern setting. Chairman Patrick Meehan says, "The original was a highly praised classic and one of Handmade`s most prized films, but its reach was limited primarily to the U.K.

Following continued interest from the U.S., we realized this remake could attract audiences worldwide with an updated setting and contemporary overtones.

When Paul presented his creative vision for this project, we were instantly convinced that this is a story that could be successfully refreshed, yet leave the integrity of the original intact." No actors have so far been cast for the project.

I watched this last week, it is my favourite UK crime film, and one of my top ten faves in general. "cut `im razors..."

the idea that Paul W. S. Anderson thinks he can add something to it is like suggesting that my tongue needs a slowly dissolving poo lozenge stuck in the middle of it..

THEY ARE GOING TO F*** THIS UP...

`Get Carter` remake springs to mind. They used the `UK only interest` bollocks to explain why this did badly at the box office too. Both films are now quite rightly regarded as cult classics. How often to we get american crap foisted upon us? Yep, all the bloody time!

Yawn - another pointless remake by a director who should have been refused access to a camera long ago. I don`t know what would be worse, something original by Paul W. S. Anderson or a p***-poor remake that would garner interest in the original.

I seem to remember Barry Norman saying about the American release of the original and how they dubbed Bob Hoskins so that his character had a Bronx accent >:(
Why don`t they just call it something else? I suppose that it follows if you`ve run out of new scripts, you`re going to run out of ideas for new titles.

Sadly, in the right hands this could be quite good (Departed anyone?) but in the hands of that talentless hack it has no chance. He must have some serious dirt on Hollywood producers with small boys or something to keep getting scripts.

As someone who speaks fluent bullsh*t I feel I should translate this statement for those who can`t understand it.

The closest translation I can make is -

"We are a bunch of clueless idiots who have absolutely no original ideas and cannot recognize a talentless dimwit from a good director.

This however does not diminish our lust to make some easy cash and so we stay up late most nights watching DVD`s of good movies and think of ways to turn them into steaming piles of sh*t by letting people like Paul WS Anderson remake them.
We then sit back and wait for the cash to roll in from the even bigger idiots who willingly part with their money to watch glossy, contemporary dumbed-down Americanised versions of cinematic classics.

Life is good, we are idiots and so are you!
