Like the first one, I absolutely loved it! :)

Bill Nighy is brilliant as Davey Jones, and the CGI work is some of the best I`ve ever seen. He looks... real!

I completely forgot Stellan SkarsgÄrd was even in it - his presence gave the film some much needed heart.

The Kraken is awesome, Hans Zimmer`s score was great (albeit still very Holst-ified) and the action is very inventive and a whole load of fun :D

Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom can`t act for toffee though :/

The ending gave me chills of excitement down my spine and a massive grin on my face...

SPOILER:
Barbossa always was the best character

Also, there`s a little scene after the credits... it`s one of the funniest bits in the film :D

Here`s my review (its a lil lengthy)

This film is great! Look at it like Mummy Returns compared to The Mummy, its more of the same, which for me & most people i`d imagine is a good thing.

I`ll start with the good things. Well Johnny Depp is brilliant as Jack Sparrow, he`s simply hilarious. Keira is lovely, gorgeous, lovely & gorgeous. And everyone else returns and plays there parts brilliantly, all the suport cast including McKenzie Crook & his friend, with alot more to do this time. Then there`s the new people, Bill Nighy (if unrecognisable under all the CGi) is good to watch (although i thought he sounded like that one in Dr Who a few weeks ago). Stellan Skarsgaad is the best of a new bunch IMO, he plays a good part in it & even under some weird make-up you can see some emotion shine through. It really is that actors that make this i think. To my recolection there was more funny 1 liners in this than before.

Then the bad things, well there is a fair bit bad about it. Its far to long 151mins!! the first one was 10 mins shorter than this & managed to work much better, but i also dont really know what could be cut. Orlando Bloom is in it far to much & Keira Knightley is in it far to little, i think they mad up for her being in the 1st one more than Bloom. Also Johnny isnt in it enough, although sometimes his, well whatever he does, gets a little tiresome after a while, but his lines dont, Sparrow is very funny. The action isnt that good, its perfectly pass-able, but not up to Bruckheimer standard. Oh and the squids were nicked from a film called Deep Rising & it was done much better in that too. And the ending is a bit annoying. Think "to be concluded" on Matrix Reloaded and you`ve got the idea. Oh and the CGi is a lil ropey in places.

It sounds like i didnt like it from all those criticsms, but i really did. As a comedy this is utterly brilliant. As a action adventure pirate movie, its not so good.

Oh and whatever you do, please stay till after the credits, its brilliant, those that staid (about 15 people) applauded this little snippit, it was soo funny.

Johnny - 10/10
Keira - 9/10
Orlando - 5/10
Action - 5/10
Comedy - 9/10
SFX - 7/10
After credits bit - 10/10
I think over-all its got to be an 8/10. its just so enjoyable. If you liked Curse of the black pearl, i see no reason why you wont like this.

Fav line: (when there look at that sunken ship)
Will - it dosent look like much
Jack - neither do you

Oh and Jack, the human kebab. That whole scene was classic!

You say pyscho like its a bad thing

Somehow, after 555`s review I feel a little more stupider...

Anyhow, I saw it last night with the missus and really enjoyed it. Firstly, the CGI is stunning. I think you almost take it for granted, but Davy Jones and his crew are amazing. The whole production design is some of the best you`ll see, I guarantee.

Now, the film itself is fantastic fun. And that`s it. It`s not going to change your life, you`re not going to be able to break this down and analyse it for subtexts.. it`s just pure big screen entertainment. It`s what cinema was made for.

Of course, I had a couple of issues with it. Capt. Jack Sparrow actually becomes less likeable through the movie, and its an odd choice that the writers have decided to give him that character arc. At times, he`s fantastic fun, but he evens that out by being an absolute bastard. Even his `redemption` is short lived. Plus, every time Keira is on screen you`re on the verge on wanting the Kraaken to just drag her into the sea bed; she really is a pouting misery. In fact, I liked her character least of all. Again there are the complaints about Bloom, but I really don`t think that the film falls flat when he is on screen, his story actually has a little more depth (so to speak) than the central plot.

The action is great, and the comedy moments aren`t quite on par with the original, but then with this film having a slightly `darker` edge (not by ESB standards though) that is probably expected.

The opening 30mins was the most enjoyable section of the film. The escape from the tribe and whole ridiculousness of it all makes you remember why you enjoyed the original so much. There`s a nice little twist at the end that leaves a smile on your face - I saw this film spoiler free and so wasn`t expecting it at all.

All I want to say is...
SPOILER:
I just hope that after Jacks `death` that the writers don`t restrict his screen time in the third part. Maybe a `ROTJ Han-Solo` type rescue at the beginning of the next part will solve this?

Deep Rising is s***. And are you referring to the Kraaken? Isn`t that actually part of mythology which goes back just that tiny but further in history than Deep Rising?

Giggity giggity!

I have no idea if thats ment to be an insult or not, as you seem to agree with me on most of the things i said about the film.

Deep Rising is a great popcorn B-movie. I just ment them being attacked by giant squid like creatures was done years ago (& somewhat better) in Deep Rising.

SPOILER:
I think the end bit were Jack "died" was completely pointless as you know he isnt dead or at least wont stay dead.

PS, who voted for this being "Absymal"?? do you have a sense of humour, or a sense of fun??

You say pyscho like its a bad thing

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 took $55.5m in it`s OPENING DAY!!!!!!!!! That`s just the US takings!!!!!!!!!!!!

That`s more than any other film has taken in a single day, beating Revenge of the Sith`s opening day record of $50m.

PIRATES IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don`t think anyone predicted it this high. At the moment, the sky is the limit for the opening weekend.

I saw the film today, and like the first film it`s a lot of fun and very funny but completely lacking in emotion. They`re great adventure films though. And the special effects just look like make-up, even Davy Jones looked like flesh as opposed to CGI.

So yes, I`ll be getting the DVD and look forward to the third next summer.

Next summer? Why have they shot them back to back if it`s going to be that long a wait?

Anyways, I`m glad you guys like the movie, because I`ve been reading some pretty negative reviews of it. Chiefly, the Empire review, the BBC teletext movie pages review and the Channel 4 text review. I was hoping it would be good, and if the box office is anything to go by (as well as your opinions here), it looks like the naysayers may have missed the point a bit.

I really would ignore the reviews. Its hardly a suprise that a sequel to a big family film isn`t welcomed with open arms by the critics. Christ, if you`d heard Mark Kermode`s review you`d think it was the worst film ever created. A good rule of thumb is to check the AICN talkback, because the people who post on there are generally very harsh, and they`ve welcomed it with open arms. It seems that its loved by most of the critic, and met with a little bit of apprehension by the critics.

It is genuinly good entertainment, even if it is a little bit on the long side.

Oh, and according to Keira Knightley at the premiere this week, there are still 3 months of filming to do to complete the 3rd part. So pencil it in your diary for this time next year.

By the way, do we know what the third film is called?

Giggity giggity!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

... which sounds a bit epic for a pirate movie. Only really makes sense when you hear Tia Dalma`s speech at the end of Dead Man`s Chest too.

Wow - that is indeed, huge! (this humble pie I`m eating is very tasty.... ;) ). It should be interesting to see what the weekend numbers will be - I can`t see any other film this year beating it.

And didn`t they make The Matrix sequels back-to-back? (and Superman and nearly all of Superman 2, come to think of it). I`m sure there are some others too...
