The hills have eyes

This has to be the goriest film in years - truly brutal... and a much better version than the original with a very interesting subtext concerning America`s foreign policy.. The film is an attack on all things USA and in particular family values - there are some great icons of American culture abused and destroyed....

soid performances and a geniunely scary film... did I mention the gore?...

I went to see it last night and thought it was great. Incredibly intense and brutal!!! I`ve never seen an axe go through so many skulls!! I`m convinced though that the two middle-aged women sat next to me and my brother thought we`re a bit deranged after our yells of "YES go on!!!" on each skull crack....!!

I like the original & figured I`d probably wait until the dvd release for the remake...but, based on what`s been said here, I think I may take a trip to the cinema.

...me too! I was thinking of seeing it anyway, but thought it might be another by-the-numbers horror remake like "The Fog" etc. Sounds good though - you`ve wetted my depraved appetite...! ;)

It`s been built up by Fangoria over the past couple of months and, as I loved Haute Tension as well as the original, there`s no way I`m missing it.

You loved Haute Tension? So you didnt find that the last 10 minutes were so irredeemably gay it made you look back on the rest of the film and question everything that happened? I wish i had turned it off early, tbh....

I know exactly why the `twist` was done, but, in the context of the rest of the film, its just total bulls***.

The trailer makes it look pretty cool, though and, apparently he doesnt bottle it at all, which really p***es me off. I hate it when horror directors pussy out of the big scenes. That said, ive read fairly conflicting reviews, so i`ll probably give it a whirl on DVD.

Loved the original though. Its definitely on the list of `Well, Wes Craven used to be good` movies. And I hope that weird looking Bald guy, Michael Berryman makes a cameo. I love that guy. Nice touch of Rob Zombie to put him in the Devils Rejects.

Haute Tension (Switchblade Romance) was great. Compare it to most of the horror films coming out of Hollywood in the last ten years and it kicks their collective ass.

Anyway, I`m glad that the movie execs actually had the foresight to grab the Director of said film and put them on this. After The Fog and some of the other recent remakes (apart from Snyder`s Dawn of the Dead) I`m glad that this one appears to have ticked all the boxes.

Really looking forward to seeing it, and I expect its got to be pretty good from HaGGis` glowing review (after all, he has been writing a dissertation on exploitation horror, right?). :p

On the subject of Haute Tension, I agree with Nick.

I enjoy a film with a twist - where you can watch it again in a different light, but the final act contravenes the entire movie. It was great up until then, though - apart from the `fellatio in the van scene` - a bit too obvious.

Haute Tension`s twist was ridiculous and almost destroyed the movie. It`s like getting a bj, and as you`re about to come she bites down hard and nearly halves your tool in length... almost. There is no denying that it does have some fantastic ideas and the execution for the most part is simply amazing. But that damn ending destroys any attempt at a narrative... rendering it just a bunch of kill, chase and suspense sequences.

I was going to give The Hills Have Eyes remake a miss, but because of Haggis (who seems to have a pretty sensible and consistant taste in movies) I`ll go see it. The Proposition is also out this weekend, so I`ll be seeing that first.
