Switchblade Romance - Blind purchase... good or bad decision?

chewie (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 27th January 2005, 20:37

Ok, so this was just shipped from Play.com. I haven`t seen the film, but understand it`s very good. Having done some research it appears the R2 is also the uncut version.

I don`t know anything about it, and the trailer looked promising (although I must admit at dismissing it as just another horror film).

So have I made a wise decision, considering I just spent £11.99 on it which is expensive for me. On another note, I also have the uncut R2 Dodgeball coming :D

But yeah, Haute Tension, what`s it like (without giving any spoilers away please)?

Both good purchases! :D

Switchblade Romance is not really a blind purchase though - you surely must`ve seen us talking about it and known that you have bought one of the best horror films of recent times. It borrows from many of the great horrors, managing to blend gore with tension.

Haute Tension is a perfect title for it, because it was one of the most edge of the seat films I`d seen for a long time. Is the Region 2 uncut by the way?

You may be a little irritated by the ending, but everything before it is so good you can forgive it. I don`t want to give too much away about the story, but suffice to say its probably what Jeepers Creepers would have been like if the rest of the film was as good as the opening.

Watch it with the lights out, and on your own preferably! :p

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

Eh, I probably unconciously ignored them. It`s Mark Kermode that kept going on about it, and a few people I know. I basically bought it on impulse ;)

Sounds great though!

According to DVDCompare.net it is, and there is a link to quite a substantial comparison (where the UK R2 wins).

Great purchase - I bought the R3 version with French extras so, for the price, wish I had waited and bought the R2. Superb horror movie and a purchase you will not regret.

It`s ok, but don`t expect it to be the greatest horror/thriller you`ve ever seen. I think I must be the only one who`s not that impressed with it!

Although, I do admit that I really do need to see the original language version, as opposed to the dubbed version, before I can pass final judgement.

I adored Haute Tension. The film of the book it *totally* rips off is on at the moment on C5 - "Dean Konntz`s `Intensity`."

I`m also watching Intensity at the moment. I haven`t read the book, but I`ve heard people mentioning that Haute Tension is a complete rip-off of Intensity.

If the film is anything like the book then I totally agree. I can`t believe the similarites.

Will be watching it tonight. Alone. In the dark (who doesn`t watch films in the dark though?).

just finished watching this. didnt know anything about it till the other day when i saw this thread. hadnt seen a trailer or any pics but i have been watching a few more dvds than normal this week so thought why not, i also havent seen many french films bar the obvious ones.

i liked it a lot, very gory, although not being a fan of the genre i dont have much to compare it to. at first i wasent sure id got the right film, as i have seen two titles mentioned here. might be one id buy know, well worth it, also that side of my collection isnt that big so that would help.

i also saw dodgeball the other night. i thought it was pretty good.ive seen most of ben stillers films recently, envy, along came polly, our house, and zoolander, all had some good bits but with the exception of the excellent zoolander, werent that great. but i thought this was really good all the way through, and it had some genuine laughs. i also saw anchorman last night, just before switchblade, and to be honest i wasent impressed. but dodgeball was good.
