`All` Region DVDs

snafu (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 31st March 2001, 19:02

I picked up some dvds at the local market. They are all of recent films, Crouching Tiger, Get Carter (Stallone) etc. They are ntsc output with dd 5.1 but across the region symbol the word `All` is printed instead of a region number. These are professionally pressed dvds in the proper boxes with covers. They were also cheap. Anyone know where these originate?

Sounds like silvers.

Have you tried to access the extras, on Crouching Tiger most of the extras are not on the silver disc (even though the menu says they are) ?

Picture quality is pretty good. All the extras on Crouching Tiger work except for the Commentary by Ang Lee and James Schamus which is listed in the menu but cant be accessed. This disc is `silver`, what`s the significance?

It`s very highly likely that it`s a fake. Or a sinlge layer disc, is that disc label a printed stright onto the disc or a stick on?

I guess from either Malaysia, China or Taiwan. And they sell for in the region £1 in these countries (you need to haggle though. Sometimes).

Snafu,

I have also just purchased some of these weird region 0 dvds, of which ive got indiana jones raiders and temple of doom plus a few others, I was also intrested in how they achieved this considering that the indiana series is not due out for another sixteen months approx.

As you posted your letter almost three weeks ago I thought you might have found something else out yet. I could see how they could possibly record off of vcds and transfer them onto dvds, but the indy series has really got me stumped. mine also mention chinese and malay.

Hope you can shed some light on this for me.

Cheers.
