I am not evil: I am just a toturous, murdeous, demonic enthusiast

I have read many reviews on a film that it supposedly so evil no reviewer has managed to watch it from beginning to end without flinching, looking away, pausing for a break or scraping off their soiled underpants.

I have not seen it but am hoping that my cheque will clear very fast indeed so I can switch out the lights and enjoy this evil feast!

What am I talking about, well Scrapbook of course. Newly released in PAL, 4:3, uncut and unrated by the BBFC, and from a UK company (right on) called Cryptkeeper. Check it out (£25 inc. P&P):

Time to put away my uncut version of Cannibal Holocaust, me thinks, there is new sickness in town.

I have read many reviews like this about films that are truly disturbing in UK and US reviews but none are as extreme as they make out.

If you like extreme films you should check out some of Takashi Miike`s films....

Visitor Q
Ichi the Killer
Audition

All his films are truly shocking and hard to watch.

It is quite nasty, but i have yet to see a film that i couldn`t watch to the end.

Well except for Star Wars Episode One: )

I`ve got Audition, thought it was pretty harrowing. I can`t think of anything more so at the minute, but i`m a bit desensatised to it now... I think it was the expression on her face when she is tearing through his legs that sticks in my mind... truly unforgetable.

Haven`t shown it to any of my mates though yet as it is R3, so they can`t watch it on their players/playstations.

Excellent service from Cryptkeeper. Cheque in post Monday, DVD received today (Wednesday).

Just finished watching the film and it is excellent. I have seen Audition and Visitor Q and they do not compare but are still very good films. The bit with incest in Visitor Q somes no where to the effect of incest/sexual abuse in Scrapbook.

I would heartily recommend this to those who like purely distrurbing films. However, I have to say that there is some hype in the reviews but it is very, very good.

Well maybe it is software and maybe it`s just me (God I hope not) but I find the whole idea of these `films` sick and just felt I had to say something. I admit I don`t know much about them even, but, nevermind liking "purely disturbing films", I personally find even the idea of someone watching films containing incest etc. and finding it "excellent", deeply deeply disturbing.

I have to wonder just how far the people who not only enjoy seeing (and are prepared to pay to see) these (to my mind) sick images are from depravity.
While I am not suggesting this of anyone here (because I don`t know you), just how desensitized do people have to become to this before the distinction between this sort of `entertainment` and reality disappear and fantasy becomes the reality??

For what it`s worth.

Well I`ve watched a few films by Miike Takashi and others that are considered `extreme`. I don`t `get off` on watching dismemberment, incest, rape as such but I see nothing wrong in filmmakers using these as subject matter if the film is well made and not exploitative. And in my own opinion, sj, for what it`s worth, if you took wholesale death and destruction out of most mainstream American product you`d have only a handful of films left - and I find that far more worrying.

Far more offensive, in my mind, is the already low opinion that mainstream Hollywood obviously has of the public`s intellect. I quote The Time Machine as an example as it`s the last mainstream American `product` I watched. It was downright insulting. It was so lame-brained, shoddy and contemptuous of its audience that if any kind of film should be banned, it`s that one and films like it. Unfortunately these films are in the majority, in my opinion.

I don`t have children but if I ever do I`d rather they watched Audition and its scenes of torture, than lobotomised drivel like any teen high-school comedy, or Collateral Damage.

I find that disturbing too!

Try Disney, think they`ll enjoy it more.

fellas. I felt that I had titled this thread quite well enough to avoid people who dislike this sort of thing from reading it.

One thing that you should remember, sj, is that films are only a form of escapism and entertainment. I have seen plently of people die from cancer and other diseases that I can`t understand why people would watch a programme like Casaulty. Hypocritical you might think, but answer this question: what is the chance of you being kidnapped and beaten by a physcotic serial killer as opposed to you seeing some one crushed in a car accident while driving on the M1?

Watching Casualty brings home the pain that I have witnessed but watching some thing that will never happen to me in my life time is entertainment.

The only difference between what you see in Casualty (the blood, guts, death, incest, child abuse) as opposed to that presented in a film like Scrapbook is the way it is presented. So there is not much difference between the two when you look at the core.

P.S. I am a normal sane person who also loves watching films made by Ghibli and Pixar - kid`s animated films. You watch one type of film for the enjoyment and the another type for the adrenaline rush.
