Sub £40 DVD Recorder with upscaling and HDMI

.... at Argos.
OK , it`s £39.99 , the description says it is mono output (but I think you can probably take that as a typo) and it`s Wharfdale.
Looks ok for the money to me.

I`ve done a Google on the model number and postings on other forums say that it is multi-region out of the box.

Well spotted G Man! Looks like a good buy. I was just thinking of buying a wharfdale digital video recorder so this will do quite nicely instead. At that price you couldn`t go wrong.

Anyone tried one of these? Very tempted as we have just upgraded to a 37" LCD with a couple of HDMIs, so interested particularly in how the upscaling works - does it look better?

Cheers all

Collecting mine tomorrow so will let you know. I`m using my PS3 to upscale my dvds at the moment and I have to say the picture quality is much better.

Decided not to get one in the end. Although it was a great price I couldn`t justify owning yet another machine as the house is coming down with them.

Got one and set it up today. The upscaling does not seem that good really, certainly not nearly as good as a PS3 however I have not tried many discs yet. It is multiregion out of the box however and for the price it is good enough really so no complaints.
