a good idea, a free check, then they find £100 worth of work that needs doing, and that it has to be doen there!

Many years ago i took a car into Kwikfit because the breaks squeeked... they put it up on a ramp, took all the wheels of and declared i need new, brake pads, discs, calipers and pipes that need replaing too... about £400 worth of work, and that they could not allow it to gop back on the orad as it was too dangerous! I told them that it was total b0110cks!!!

I took the car to another local one man band back street garage... all it needed was the brake discs cleaning due to dust on them! All he wanted was the cost of a pint or two... and he told me of many others who had been ripped off by these kinds of `supercentres`.

Funny you should mention that. I had to take my back box off cos it had disconnected, took it to Kwik Fit to get a new one, had to get a new middle section and kat, cost me £330 all in all.

I asked to see the kat and it did have a small hole in it but Kwik Fit seem to do this all the time. I took my car to the Nationwide Autocentre though the other day for something reasonable small. Guy did it for nothing, they seem a little more trustworthy, near me at least.

I wouldn`t bother either,it`s bound to be an excuse to fish for extra work.I remember having a blowing back box replaced on a Citroen AX,can`t remember where, but the bloke said the middle bit was on it`s last knocking too,& it would be best to do it at the same time.I said no thanks,I`ll bring it back when it actually HAS gone.He said "ok it`s up to you,but we`ll see you in about 2 weeks then".I kept the car another 3 years,& never did have to replace the middle section.
Also saw a program where an expert gives a car a thorough going over, identifies what,if anything,is faulty, then they submit it to a garage for a check over.
The crap they make up is unbelieveable....one example sticks in my mind....dripping oil on to (perfectly good) shock absorbers, then inviting the customer to come & look at the car while it`s up in the air & "see what they have found"........."unfortunately sir/madam your shock absorbers are leaking & need replacing....£500".
And unfortunately for women, they are perceived as the best (soft) target.
