Buy 512mb of memory from Crucial, get a flash drive free !!

Crucial Technology are doing an offer at the moment for one week only (or while stocks last), where if you buy 512mb of memory or more (for the PC or flash cards), you get a 256mb USB2.0 Gizmo flash memory stick free (normally £14). I`ve had one of the older usb1.0 Gizmos for a few years now, nice bit of kit.

I`ve been pondering adding another gig of memory to my PC for a while now, 2x 512mb in dual channel mode. So ordered each stick as a seperate order, so should hopefully get two free Gizmos, at least the order confirmation says I should. It says limit is one per order, not one per customer, so should be ok.

Crucial Memory is fitted as standard by a lot of manufacturers, and come with a limited lifetime warranty (ie, it covers if its faulty, but not if you break it). I`ve used them for memory upgrades for my PCs and for flash drives and memory cards before. They`re good stuff, at a good price, and postage is free if the order`s over £25.

I thought that you were better buying memory in matched pairs for best performance... so you may be better buying 2x512Mb in one order in a matched pair.

I have ordered a matched pair (two of same part number after using their memory scanner tool), two sticks of 512 each. Just ordered each stick as a seperate order as both qualify for a free Gizmo drive. :)

Showing as shipped now, so should be here tomorrow.

Two of the same part number is not a matched pair. A matched pair is called a `kit` on the Crucial web site. I remember writing to them to ask them why they were charging more for 2x512Mb kit than buying 2 individual 512Mb and from memory they are from the same batch in the kit and should work better together.

2 of the same part number is a matched pair and work just as well as the kits. I don`t know why Crucial charge more for the kit though if the memory in the kit has the same part number as the individual sticks of memory.

Thanks for the info... I just looked to check if they were still dearer and they have put the price up of the 1GB (2x512Mb) kit to £93.99 wherewas the individual 512Mb is £37.59.

I am sure earlier today the same kit was around £71.

I don`t think they`ll trawl through all their stock to match a pair up, two of the same part number will be a pair. I used their system scanner tool which scans your system for compatible parts for your PC, they guarantee it to be the right parts. Recommended upgrade for my PC was 2x512mb sticks of xxxx part number used in dual channel mode (which is what I was wanting, an extra gig of memory in two banks). All I did was order the same part number but as two induvudual orders...still getting the same parts, as Mike said.

I only posted this in case anyone was in the market for some more memory, not to discuss what I`m fitting to my PC. :)

Mark/HD. I was taking Crucial at their word - that the kit was `better` than buying 2 individuals. Because of this post I have done what you have done and put in 2 separate orders which I wouldn`t have thought of doing... so thanks. However, they encouraged me to do it by changing the prices to make it much cheaper to order 2 individual 512Mb than the 1GB kit not taking into consideration the USB drives.

However, on my second order the option to add a free USB drive did not appear and I had to clear my cookies to get to appear again....even though the T&C`s say one free USB drive per order. Cheers.

EDIT : Got an extra 4% off by using a voucher code available on HotUKDeals website.

Checked my order status earlier and they`re in the post, two packages, both with a flash drive included. :D

Just a note, mine arrived today, just fitted it. No problems, except had to remove graphics card to make enough room for the memory retainer levers to fold down. Put the new bigger memory in bank 1 and the older memory into bank too. Booted up and it`s showing it straight away...1.5gb installed (with my original 512mb).
