TEVION 160GB DIGITAL DVD/HDD RECORDER £229.99

This will be sold at Aldi this Thursday 20th October.
Seams like a cracking buy, Ideal world had a 160GB Liteon one last week for £235ish and Qvc had one the other night a Samsung 80GB but no pause live tv for about £245ish.
The Aldi one has 3 year guarantee so I think I will go for that one. TED

Hi,

A Tevion 160GB HDD recorder was launched in Aldi on Sept 1st for 229. Although it had very good featuers, I read on forums that its editing capabilities were absolutely useless. Hence, I decided not to buy. dunno if ure talking abt the same machine

Our ALdi still has a pile of them from the September deal-looks like a lot of them were left and they are trying to peddle them off again. For similar money, you can do better- and Tevion`s customer service is really awful. I used to sing their praises but they basically lied to me over a faulty cordless keyboard mouse set and that was the final straw for me.

Trouble is, while Aldi were cheap on their domestic electronics/computers and perpherals a couple or three years ago, they aren`t any more- Anyone notice they recently had to put a `super sale` leaflet out on the stuff that hasn`t sold? Virtually everything they offer no you can buy cheaper either online or form a local specialised computer store.

Emily I couldn`t agree more they are trying to sell on their reputation from a few years ago without reducing their prices. typical recent example - the two screen portable dvd on sale at £169 didn`t sell so tried again at £159 - still too expensive imho

I bought the twin screen dvd from Aldi and the build quality was poor. Sound was intermittent on one side. It also looked hideous set up in the car and is next to useless as a potable player. So back it went.

I got the flippy twisty Bush 8" screen portable from Argos instead. I needed one fast for hols. It has been great. Being able to use it tablet style saves space and is less prone to breakage.

Errr....sorry if I wandered off topic!

I bought one of these, the first wouldn`t tune in, the second kept switching itself off instead of standby after a timed recording. The helpline promised a disc with firmware to rectify this. I never received one. Aldi replaced this with a third which works ok. However, the spec. on the box clearly states that chapters can be deleted - can anybody out there tell me how to, because the helpline certainly didn`t know and the manual doesn`t help. Chapters can only br "hidden" and occupy space.

If it is unable to do this isn`t this contravening the Trades Description Act?

If you`re unsure about DVD recording, I`d avoid this company .

Cheers
