cheap criterions

dicanio (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 10th June 2001, 17:36

www.movietyme.com are offering loadsa criterions cheap. Some are expensiver than stardvds but most are a lot cheaper. And this retailer has been around for a long time and therefore should be considered trustworthy. by the way i think postage and packing to the uk is free.

I`d love the Robocop Criterion edition but I`m buggered if I`m paying 40 quid for it. Anyone know of this for around the 20 - 25 pound mark?

ooooh. :) Happy smiley Kenny goes to take a look....

Just wondering, is this the ONLY version of Robocop on DVD? Cos although it looks all fancy and everything, can`t they just make this a normal priced DVD seeing as normal ones are coming out with just as many extras?

Hmm. I think you`ll get better prices from www.dvdme.co.uk or www.stardvds.co.uk - the excellent `Peeping Tom` is only £20.99 at DVDME and `Spartacus` is cheaper at StarDVD.

With regard to `Robocop`, I believe there was a staight-from-the-VHS-master US release. However this was apparently pretty crap, so Criterion spent a great deal of money and effort cleaning up the print and sound, and in tracking down all those extras. Hence the elevated price.

Find out more at the Criterion web site: www.criterionco.com

lmao stardvds get real pal. i`ll try that dvdme though. might be worth checking out. And this dvdme.co.uk looks ancient. according to them castaway and vertical limit are still on the cinema and cant find both of them on dvd. guess there is no point searching for pre orders then is there? lol

D`you know, I`ve never ordered anything from StarDVDs: are they tossers then?

DVDME I can recommend, however, especially as its owner Vic DuPreez writes postings on this site! I recently tried to get hold of the Region 1 `I, Claudius` and sent Vic an email: he quoted me the cheapest UK price and ordered it from the States for me. If you want something that`s not on his website, just email him with a request.

Similarly, www.futureent.com will do the same. I got the stunning region 1 versions of `Dracula (1931)` and `Frankenstein (1931)` from them for only £17.99 each (including P&P).

If in doubt email the pair of them and compare prices.

Hope this is of help.

Erm. I`ve just read the threads on StarDVD in the General forum. I shall be deleting it from my browser favourites forthwith.

Run away!
