The views of the uninformed don`t ya just love them. I got an iPod for Xmas and the battery life lasts at least 8 hours. Yeah the battery does drop after about 500 recharges but then so does your mobile phone battery or had you forgotten that also?

The drop in battery life for other items is true right enough, however they don`t tend to cost £70 - £75 to replace !

I think I will stick to my iRiver cd/mp3 player as it runs for 20 - 23 hours on rechargeables.

iPod looks cool but will need to up its batterly life for me to consider it over the iRiver.

:(

Ahem..... yes the uninformed.

Apple are superb at looking after their customers, if you buy from Dixons, and then have battery problems, Apple UK will sort out a replacement.

Also, battery calibration also helps, and is covered on the Apple Support website.

I would only consider two MP3 players at the moment, the iPod and the Rio Karma, but the iPod would probably win out cos it oooooozes quality.

If only everything was half price at Woolies !

The 15gb model is £239.99 at Amazon.co.uk and that includes the docking station.

Not sure on the batteries though. I would like to see user replaceable ones and at US$99 expect the replacement to be £99!

According to Apple the cost for UK replacement will be £79!

This will include collection and return!

If you have the extended warranty they will send replacement within 2 years so back up your music before you send em off!

PS, if you go to France on Eurotunnel you can get a 17.5% discount on all ipods!

The 40gb is £339.58! Ditto if you flying from any BAA airport to EU, you won`t get stung on import duty as it`s not legally tax free, it`s a discount!

Call before you fly (or shuttle it) & save a fortune!!

The battery life is fine, to be honest. And if it goes you can just take it back to where you bought it - and if still in guarantee - swap it instantly. :-)

(And maybe Apple`s price for replacement will come down also!)

Uninformed indeed! I bought this thing for my teenage daughter for Christmas and there is no more discerning customer than a teenager but then I don`t expect you to know that. Anyway battery life has at best been 4 hrs and I don`t think there is any dispute that battery replacement is expensive and quite short term. Pity they didn`t design the thing so that the user could replace the battery themselves - still a nice little earner don`t ya think?
