That is very good.
No monitor (as usual) but DVD RW.

Despite what some people have said in the past, they do use good quality components too.

Still VERY happily using the laptop I got from them last July & (fingers crossed here!) not one problem with the thing yet. Just have to talk my Mrs into convincing herself she needs one of these for her college course.
This sounds like a cracking deal.

...edit...some of the stores still have the 15" TFT monitors in for about £159.00 or £179.00 too.

I can vouch for the quality of the Medion kit, my fiancee`s brother got the last PC on offer at Aldi, and I got the TFT screen - I`m no expert but the picture quality is excellent, and it has no problems with games (no jerkiness).

My fiancee`s brother`s TFT screen had a dead pixel, but Medion (not Aldi) collected it by courier and replaced it with no hassle at all. I don`t think you could buy a better screen for this price.

More details on the Aldi PC offer - it looks very good...

Homes in my area have just been leafleted with a comprehensive 4-page A3 fold-out
of what this Aldi PC`s got. It`s an impressive spec - things not mentioned in the
original posting:

* 16x DVD-ROM is a Sony.
* A stereo TV and FM radio card is included.
* It has 5 USB ports.
* The mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse.
* It`s apparently reviewed in Computer Active (issue 134, 3rd April), but I haven`t
seen the mag yet.
* The connections are impressive, include SD/MMC, Compact Flash, Smart Media and Memory Stick slots for reading/writing cards for your digital camera or PDA.
* The Aldi PC I bought a year ago is fine, but my big bugbear was the jumbo jet noise of the fans (it`s in my bedroom and I cannot leave it on overnight). They`ve paid attention to this with their "Air XL" system, which is apparently whisper quiet.
* No monitor, but you can get a normal 19" for 119.99 quid or a 15" TFT for 159.99 quid. Personally, I can`t stand anything less than 21", but that`s just me :-)

Software-wise, it`s top-heavy with the stuff:

* Windows XP (presumably Home Edition)
* Medion Power Cinema
* Cyberlink Media Show
* Cyberlink Power Director
* Cyberlink Video LiveMail
* Cyberlink Power DVD
* Pinnacle Instant Copy
* Music Match
* Nero Burning ROM
* Word 2002
* Money 2003
* Picture It! Photo 7.0
* Autoroute 2002
* Encarta 2003
* AOL

Don`t forget that Alsi will take Switch, Delta and cash, but won`t take cheques or
credit cards at Aldi. Also remember to queue up at 8.30am (or earlier) on Thursday 3rd
April - I thought 20 minutes before opening was enough last year, but I barely got
the PC (a few left out of the 25 they had in that day). What I did was visit the
store the day before and talk to the manager, primarily to find out the stock level
they`d have of the PCs.

One final note, you can put Linux on Medion PCs quite nicely - the hard disk I got
was already split into 3 partitions (large, medium and small), so it made it quite
easy to get Red Hat (or whatever your favourite distro is) on.

Before you ask, no, I won`t be queueing for one cos the 2.0Ghz model I got last
year should last me 2-3 more years before I consider a new one (I want a machine
at least twice as fast as my current one if I buy new and this new Aldi is only 30%
quicker).

I`ve just read the Computeractive Article. They gave it 5 out of 5 and said:

"...the Medion Titanium MD 8008 is astounding value for money. We have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is interested in getting the best PC they can for a sensible price..."

I`m very tempted - and I haven`t even got the money for it!
