RE: HMV DVDs from £2.49

Well the £2 off £13.99 one works just fine. :D
thanks for that

RE: free £8.75 voucher from CDWOW

Received this email from them today. I feel kind of sorry for the poor sods in the office who have to go through these applications and all the emails asking about them. They`ve had 85,000 entries according to another site.

Hi

Sorry for the delay in responding - we have been inundated with
applications which do not meet the stipulated criteria and so we have had to
sort through them manually. Thank you for your patience.

We will be sending the vouchers to "qualifying" entries shortly.
Kind regards
James

RE: £5 off at CD-Wow

CD WOW will attract some seriously bad publicity if they refuse to honour this voucher as well as the £8.75 one.

I`d also suggest emailing timeout magazine and make it clear to them that they will lose potential readers as a result of this fiasco. Maybe they will lean on cd-wow and get them to cough up some vouchers.

RE: Blockbuster Video Trade-In Service, Anyone Tried It Yet?

Blockbuster trade in prices are a joke, even for DVDs they pay peanuts. Ebay punters and second hand shops don`t want to know about videos anymore. The only place I`ve had any success selling is at the local car boot. :(

RE: CD-WOW new policy - They are no longer accepting multiple vouchers

Instead of having all these vouchers and numerous mirror sites all with different prices, they should just have 1 site and 1 price for everything. :/

RE: DVD Swapping - The selection gets better

I use www.xiddi.co.uk for swapping DVDs. They swap games too. Selection is obviously llimited by the DVDs that people are willing to trade but the best thing is you don`t have to do a straight swap, you can trade a DVD for points (called xids) and save them up til a decent DVD becomes available.

RE: 10 Adult DVD`s for just £38.90! PLUS A BONUS!

Only a bargain if you happen to live in the south east of England. Add on the cost of getting to Eurotunnel from where you live, more than £50 in my case, and it`s not much of a deal. Plus the quality of an adult DVD is a very subjective thing. Wouldn`t like to travel all the way over there only to find that they are cheap copies.

Anyone know of an adult shop in Belgium that does mail order to the UK?

RE: LOTR Extended Trilogy Boxset £18.99

Received confirmation email at the £18.99 price. Any legally minded people out there know if that makes it a binding contract?

RE: LOTR Extended Trilogy Boxset £18.99

Got confirmation email - £37.98 for 2 of them. Any legally minded people out there know if that makes it a binding contract?

RE: LOTR Extended Trilogy Boxset £18.99

Great spot :D just ordered 2 to get the free postage for orders over £30. Must be a mistake, cos they`re charging £24 for the extended ROTK 4 disc.

Return of the King Extended Edition £17.49

Sendit are offering ROTK 4 disc pre order for just £17.49. Seems too good to be true :o What are they like when it comes to sending preorders out on time?

RE: Adult Films

cheekydvd uk dvd rental r18 films. 14 day free trial :D

RE: Speed, Die Hard, Independence Day, The Transporter & Behind Enemy Lines - £14.99 the lot!

If you look closely at the picture on the site you`ll see the discs are not packaged individually. It`s another one of these Fox boxsets where you get the discs, but not much else, no inlays etc, just a cardboard foldout box.

Resale value is a lot lower as a result and you can`t sell just the ones you don`t like :(

If you really want all 5 films though it`s still a good deal.

RE: powerplaydirect.co.uk - Any good?

Just ordered from them today. My item was not in stock but in their email it states they won`t charge you until the item is despatched. That sets them apart from SP**** who ripped everyone off by taking the money up front.

Expected delivery date is given as 3-10 days. I`ll be keeping a close eye on them and will cancel if I don`t get the goods within 14 days max.

RE: Vipco horrors

Can someone send me that url please?

Cheers,
Dave

RE: cheaper than cheap cinema sound at w h smiths shops /web

Does anyone know if the dvd player with this kit plays DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R or DVD-RW discs?

RE: Ex Rental DVDs £5.99 for two at Blockbusters

I keep going in my local blockbuster (Cosham), looking for these bargains and they don`t exist :(

lots of titles at £7.99 for 2, and a few at £5.99 for 2 but all of them crap. No City of God, no Daredevil, No Hulk etc, etc. They had Xmen 2, but wanted £12.99 for it (ex rental too) bloody cheek >:(

Best deal I`ve seen was 3 for 19.98 (terminator 3,matrix reloaded, charlies angels 2) and the discs had so many scratches, they looked like they`d been played on an old fashioned hi-fi turntable. Still played ok thankfully, otherwise I`d have taken them straight back.

RE: TECHNOSONIC HT713 DVD Player - HACK NEEDED Plllllease

THIS IS SAME AS MUSTEK HT173 PLAYER I THINK. HACK AT DVDRHELP.COM ;)

RE: don`t bother with screenselect

I`ve not had any problems either and I`m on the free trial. Would make sense for them to put all their effort into keeping potential new customers happy, and let existing customers service levels suffer as a result. :(

This appears to standard practice in other businesses. eg Building societies offer better interest rates to new customers than to existing ones.

I`ll be cancelling before the end of the trial and moving on to the next freebie. There`s no shortage of them at the moment.

RE: SPLASHDVD OUT OF BUSINESS

Faraz,

You’ve not made a very sympathetic case I’m afraid. You tried to make money by buying cheap stuff off Splash then reselling it to unsuspecting punters on E-bay. If you were prepared to invest £600 then I’d guess you were making a tidy profit on the deal. You thought were making a fool out of Splash, but they ended up making a fool out of you.

Bottom line is; you got greedy and now you’ve got burned.

Not only were you greedy, you were also naïve, to think that a company like Splash wouldn’t just disappear overnight without fulfilling its orders. The poor service as indicated by all the bad reviews, was a warning of what was likely to happen.

Anyone who had read any reviews and still bought from them (and that includes me) knew they were taking a risk. I made certain I used a credit card, because I feared that they would just take my money and run. But the cheap deals were too good to ignore.

If I end up out-of-pocket I’ll put it down to experience and remember that if something looks too good to be true, it probably is.

RE: SPLASH DVD, Please read in before posting anymore about this company!!

Well, your request was certainly well timed. I just tried to get in to the Splash site and they have announced that as of noon on 9th March the company has ceased trading.

Good news for all those that have been asking for the company to be taken off the web, bad news for all the ones (like me) who have paid them money and are still waiting for goods.

If the splash complaints were bad before they`re about to get a whole lot worse >:(

STORE4DVD - any use?

Has anyone tried Store4DVD, advertised on this very site!

They offer region 1 stuff from the US, but state that every DVD is re-mailed from the UK. This should allow UK buyers to avoid the risk of the evil Customs and Excise opening our US DVDs and charging us for the privelige.

Rent DVDs online - cheaper than blockbuster

Seems to be lots of free trials around for online DVD rental at the moment.Apart from the Lovefilm one through SplashDVD, MSN have got one with videoisland where you can have 5 DVDs out at once for £26.03 a month and the first 2 weeks are free :)

They also have the best deal on multiple discs - like the entire alien quadrilogy (counts as 9 dvds I think, but you can rent each one individually).

Anyone seen any other DVD rentals online?

RE: Cheap widescreen TV

Had a look at the ebay ad, same TVs as I saw in Cashconverters, graded stock too. Cashconverters were selling the silver 28" widescreen at £179 and the black one at £159.

Electrosave - the ebay seller - are asking £175 and £150 respectively, but you`ve got to pay £35 for delivery on top of that.

Bought a £159 one yesterday. Can`t find anything wrong with it.....we`ll see how long it lasts.

Cheap widescreen TV

Cashconverters in Fareham were selling Onimax 28" widescreen TVs for £159-£179.
Graded stock , which means some cosmetic damage or items that have been repaired. You get a 12 month guarantee too, if anything goes wrong :)

Beats radio rentals, who were selling ex-rental 28" widescreens for £199 with 3month guarantee.
