Help diagnosing Sky+ fault

Hi, before ringing Sky can someone help narrow down this fault.

Do the 2 cables coming from the LNB have to go into specific Dish Inputs on the Sky+ box? Also, do you have to have a signal on Dish Input 1 before Dish Input 2 shows?

I am trying to discover if I have a faulty cable/LNB connection or box input. At the moment I only have a signal for Dish Input 1. Recording works but only for the channel I am watching.

Thanks.

RE: Sky+ upgrade pricing

Apparently, the technique is to ring Sky cancellations. Give any excuse (eg. want a PVR but Sky+ too expensive, especially as existing customers get a worse deal) and bluff that you wish to cancel your subscription. The current `offer` after the operator `has a word with their manager` is £49 with free installation.

I will give it a go tonight.

RE: Sky+ upgrade pricing

Thanks everyone,

After the first year, are Sky subscriptions rolling monthly? As ste says, could I not threaten to leave unless I got the box for the new subscriber price? Has anyone had any success with this tactic?

I will upgrade to the movie channels in order to avoid the £10 monthly charge.

Sky+ upgrade pricing

Hi all,

Is there any way I can upgrade to Sky+ cheaper than the calculation below:

Sky+ box: £199 (existing subscriber)
Installation: £60
Monthly subscription: £10 (I dont subscribe to any premier channels)

It`s a bit galling that new customers get the box for £89.

Cheers.

RE: Has anyone seen Tsui Hark`s Vampire Hunters?

Mr Vampire is fantastic but I didn`t realise there were several. Is the first one (I presume that is what I`ve seen!) available on R1 or R2?

RE: Starsky & Hutch Trailer Here .

Cheesy p***takes of the 70`s have been done ad-nauseum haven`t they? Think this may be a damp-squib but with Wilson and Stiller it has a fighting chance. Snoop dog looks super-fly though!

RE: Recommend me some

The French film `Rififi` (1955). The acting and directing have a modern quality when compared to the American films of the period. Available on R1 but unsure of R2.

RE: Which Loewe?

Thanks Westy. I`ll try and get to a highstreet store to see if I find the Tosh cabinet distracting - damn my pickiness!

RE: Which Loewe?

The reason why I sent the Panasonic back was because I just couldn`t live with the cabinet (the silver surround was distracting my eyes away from the screen). I noticed the Loewe`s came in all manner of dark shades and saw the Aventos was around the £800 mark.

Westy, does the Toshiba you mention come in a 28" version? Thanks.

RE: Which remote control?

Does yours make a buzzing noise when operating?

Which Loewe?

Having dumped my Pansonic TX28PS1 I`m willing to up the budget and consider something else. Cabinet aesthetics are important to me so I`ve been looking at Loewe`s sets. My criteria is:

28"
excellent picture quality
good sound
2 scarts (1 RGB)
cabinet must be available in a dark colour
maximum of £800

Any suggestions? What are Loewe`s CRT sets like?
Cheers all.

RE: Panasonic TX28PS1 potential picture flaw

I`m using decent quality IXOS scarts. The line is also present on the composite input. I`m entitled to a refund under distance purchasing rights so that is what I`ll do.

Panasonic TX28PS1 potential picture flaw

Hi all. I have just taken delivery of a Panasonic TX28PS1 and have noticed a faint vertical line 3.5cm from the left of the screen. This is particularly noticeable when the screen is predominantly grey. Playback is an RGB DVD picture. Is this normal?

RE: Which all in one Remote do I buy???

I`ve got the Kameleon 6 which controls my Sony TV, Pioneer DVD player and Yamaha amp. Very impressed, with the exception of an annoying buzz when it is operating.

RE: Can anyone recommend a good 28" widescreen TV?

Quote:
Thanks for all the advice guys. I have been looking at Panasonics recently so may go with those after all your good recommendations. Or maybe JVC.

You can get the Panasonic PS1 for £380 from the Comet website (£440 instore). I`ll be getting one when I get paid next month!

RE: Pioneer DV360 player - a good player?

Yes, it`s a cracking little player and £75 for a multiregion version is fantastic.

RE: Panasonic TX28PS1 TV

Thanks all - the Panasonic it is.

Panasonic TX28PS1 TV

I`m looking for a sub-£500 28" widescreen TV. Criteria is:

picture quality
at least 2 scarts (with 1 RGB)
NTSC playback

and that`s it. I`ve seen the Panasonic TX28PS1 for £380 inclusive of stand and delivery from Comet of all places. Are there any other models I should be aware of?

Thanks.

RE: no sound from new amp

Macdaddy - you talking to me? If so, I have the Yamaha HTR5540RDS. I`m not the worlds greatest audiophile but the amp has all the features, connections, power and clarity that I wanted. And for £180, a good price.

RE: no sound from new amp

What you need to refer to is the SET MENU section of the manual. The set menu allows setting adjustment for things such as speaker levels, balance, display, memory and, what you need to alter, the I/O ASSIGN (input/output assignment). Quoting from the manual:

`It is possible to assign jack`s according to the component to be used....Once you assign, you can select the component with the INPUT < / > [button on the amp fascia]`

For the optical input (set menu number 7C) you can choose (1) MD/CD-R, CD, V-AUX, VCR, D-TV/CBL or DVD (I chose CD).
For the coaxial input (set menu number 7D) you can choose (2) MD/CD-R, CD, V-AUX, VCR, D-TV/CBL or DVD (I chose DVD because my DVD player only has a coaxial audio output).

For the above example, when I choose CD with the INPUT selector button, the amp will play the signal received via the optical input and when I select DVD, it will play the coaxial signal.

Hope this helps.

RE: What 28" TV for £600

Cheers, will check it out.

What 28" TV for £600

100 Hz
Flat screen
3 Scarts (2 RGB)
don`t care about sound only the picture.

Any recommendations appreciated.

RE: EMPIRE Magazine - Is it the best?

Empire has the best writers and photographers and is held in high regard by film-makers. Total Film, Hotdog et al are just pretenders to its crown.

RE: Buzzing Kameleon 6 remote

Cheers. I obviously don`t watch as many films as yourself as the batteries are doing fine. Thanks for the reply - at least I know the buzzing is normal.

Best 28

Max price: £600
28" flat screen
100Hz
3xSCART (at least 1 RGB)
Not interested in sound quality, only the picture.

Many thanks for your recommendations.

Sony KV28FX68

A work colleague is considering the Sony KV28FX68 TV at £455. Any opinions on this set? Cheers.

Buzzing Kameleon 6 remote

Hi all. I have the One For All Kameleon 6 remote control and while I am very pleased with its operation it does omit an annoying buzzing sound when on. Is this normal or do I have a faulty unit? I have read the extensive review on www.remotecentral.com but it makes no mention of this. Cheers.

RE: no sound from new amp

I have the Yamaha HTR5540RDS and the coaxial input is defaulted to the CD option while the optical input is to the DVD. It is easy to reassign these but it is confusing when you first use the amp!

Mission FS1 or FS2?

Seen both of these speaker packages for about £350. Looks are important in order to satisfy the girlfriend. I prefer the styling of the FS1`s but are the FS2`s sonically superior?

Cheers all,
Guy.
