RE: pacific 750 or schneider 857 which is best ?

Neither.I was lumbered with each of these after my Dansai 852 packed up,and both went back because-

a:There build quality is substandard
b:Most models have been nobbled not to play vcd`s etc
c:lip synch problems on various titles

I know it costs a little more, but the samsung 224 plays most things and got a best buy award. It`s multi region also,as are the 2 you mention. If price is the key you could try the Daewoo 6000D,but sadly no macro hack.Infact most players now have had the macro disabling feature removed. It can be a real pain finding a decent budget player,i almost gave up after constant refunds.Good luck.

RE: alba 108 dvd player....help needed

Try searching the forums for info.I think there is a piece on getting it to play vcd`s.But wait! why would you buy an Alba? there past history in dvd is appalling, with constant problems playing numerous titles.Spending just alittle more would get you something with more lasting power, like the Daewoo 6000D,which plays everything you can chuck at it,but without the glitches.Beware.

RE: James Bond Box Set £169.99

They might be on television alot, but what about the mass of adverts and breaks for the news. Then there is also the wealth of extras you get on these discs.Apart from the politically correct Brosnan years,Bond is pure entertainment, unlike laughable junk like spiderman, with it`s terrible cgi effects.

RE: The new Alba 108 DVD Player at ARGOS (£69.99) is Multi-Region !!!!!!

There`s budget players, and then there is alba.If these machines last out a year i will be very surprised.Recently Tesco tried to pass an alba off to me and i laughed out loud.Better to spend a little more and get something half decent.

RE: Wanted Budget: Multiregion DVD player that plays VCDs and MP3s too.

Why not try a Daewoo 6000D from Bennets,or Safeway. These babys will play anything you throw at them.Haven`t had mine long, but the vcd`s i make with Nero play fine,as do svcd`s.Don`t be tempted by makes like Pacific,Medion etc,as most of these have been nobbled not to play vcd`s,and the build quality is highly suspect.

RE: Dansa clones

Yes,to me it is almost identical.Sadly you cannot remove macrovision on the Daewoo, but in all other area`s it is just as good, and looks better.

RE: MY MEDION WON`T PLAY VCD`S HELP!!

Take it back quickly.I had one of these travesty`s,and they are very cheap and nasty.Replaced it with a Daewoo 6000D,and it plays everything i throw at it.The Medion packed up after just 2 days, and the fact that it`s vcd capabilities have been removed renders it completely useless.Even if you want to keep it i don`t think there is a hack to make it play them. All in all a load of crap.

RE: Dansa clones

Hard to track down a dansai 852 now,and the newer models are crap. But if you want a clone why not try the daewoo 6000D,it plays the lot.Try Bennets online store.Cost me £99.99,though i heard safeway were selling them cheaper. The recent medion in Aldi is also a Dansai clone of sorts, but it`s very cheaply knocked together, and looks awful compared to the Daewoo. Finally there is the Technika from hughes, but i don`t know what this is like. All are remote hackable.

RE: Gone with the wind @ £8.99

There is not,and never will be a widescreen version of GWTW,due to the fact that widescreen didn`t exist in 1939.Widescreen was created in the mid-fifties to combat television.

asda 2 for £12

Went to asda in Gt Yarmouth last night and they have a new deal.2 dvd`s for £12.97.Nothing really special, but i picked up Get carter (original) and Under Siege.Mostly Warner titles i think.
