RE: Pioneer dv-444 and Planet of the apes(2001)
Well, I get the same delay on the Godfather Part II so I`m pretty sure. Furthermore, my Wharfedale machine plays the disc with no problem at all - not even a slight pause.
Cheers anyway
RE: Pioneer dv-444 and Planet of the apes(2001)
Thanks Jez
I could handle a half-second delay, but as I said mine is 1.7 seconds and you are about the 4th person to confirm to me that theirs is 0.5 seconds so I`m fairly convinced I have a faulty player.
I`m going to liase with Techtronics about this - I`ve heard good things about their customer support so now its time to put that to the test! :)
Cheers

Memento - it seems that not that many people have the Pioneer 444k as only one person replied to my layer-change problem (a very helpful one though I`m glad to say!).
I only got mine last week, and if you read my thread you`ll see I have a layer-change problem (timed at 1.7 seconds). Have either of you guys noticed any problems with layer changes??
RE: Pioneer 444k - Frame Freeze at Layer Change?
Update:
I have timed the freeze at layer changes for both the Godfather Part II and Gladiator on my machine and it was consistently around 1.7 seconds - which is obtrusive. nolimit says that his was less than half-a-second which leads me to suspect my machine may be faulty.
I am in the process of trying to find a local store that sells the Pioneer 444 so I can play-test the machine with these discs to see if it is my machine that is faulty rather than it being a problem with the machine in general.
I would appreciate it if anyone else who has this model could let me know how their machine performs at layer changes as well.
RE: Toshiba SD210, Pioneer DV-444 or Sony DVP-NS400. Tough Choice!
It was my thread that highlighted the freezeframe problem on the Pioneer 444. The guy that kindly helped me out said that his machine had a very, very slight pause - less than half-a-second - whilst my machine is pausing for approximately 1.7 seconds (yes I have timed it!) - which is obtrusive.
I am now in the process of trying to ascertain whether my machine is faulty as I have a suspicion that it might be. I have trawled through the internet trying to find someone mentioning layer change problems with the Pioneer and I have found none.
My point is, please don`t be put off the Pioneer. Its a lovely machine and I wouldn`t want anyone to miss out because of a potentially faulty machine (which happens).
I suggest you play-test the Pioneer with dual layer discs. I can provide the layer-change times for Gladiator and The Godfather Part II if you require them (they are in the Pioneer 444 Freeze Frame thread as well).
RE: Pioneer 444k - Frame Freeze at Layer Change?
Thanks for checking nolimit.
Strange how my old Wharfedale dealt with the layer change seamlessly but this excellent new machine can`t!
Ah well
RE: Pioneer 444k - Frame Freeze at Layer Change?
Thanks nolimit.
Its Chapter 14 73:24 : Lucilla gives Commodus a tonic to drink and just after he drinks it there is a close up of Lucilla`s profile - thats where it freezes. The display then says Search and the film then resumes. I wasn`t clear before, but the word `Search` appears on the player`s display, not on the TV screen.
Interested to know if it happens on yours and many thanks for the help.

Pioneer 444k - Frame Freeze at Layer Change?
I have just bought a modified Pioneer 444k from techtronics. The player is excellent with an excellent picture and sound.
I have however, got a minor problem. I have played two DVDs on the player (Gladiator and Godfather Part II) and both have had one part of the movie that freezes for about 1 second before continuing - and the word Search appears temporarily on the player`s display.
I have played the same section of the Godfather II on my old Wharfedale and it has no problem at all with it. You can however, hear the DVD spin sound change at this point on the Wharfedale (does this mean its changing layer or something??) - but it is not the end of the chapter.
The problem section is in Godfather II: Disc 1 - Chapter 10 - 5:47 (the scene as Pantangele walks into his house where Michael is waiting for him). The scene freezes as Michael`s `thug` turns to look at Pantangele as he enters the house from the outside.
Any advice would be greatfully recieved.
Regards
Wharfedale DVD750 problem
I have a Wharfedale 750 and a Philips 32PW9515 TV.
I region-hacked the DVD using the 0123 hack and although the machine does play Region 1 DVDs there seems to be a slight distortion when I do. It seems to occur whenever there is a bright background - any object that moves around on top of a bright background causes a `ghosting` across the screen. Region 2 DVDs playback perfectly.
When I play a Region 1 DVD I change the DVD player`s System Setting to NTSC and this improves things radically, but it is still there. There is no option on my TV to force NTSC (I don`t think).
Does any bright spark out there know of something I can do to improve the display?
Cheers
