RE: Gawd bless `er - Queen Mum dies

Yes... they have had these ready to roll for the last couple of years now. The BBC made a terrible mistake a while back when their teletext system broadcast the news of the Queen mothers death along with a number of pre-written obituaries.

It has been on the cards for quite a while, but a real shame that she never made it through to the queen`s jubilee.

RE: Ebuyer advice

Beware though - Their delivery charges are pretty steep, so make sure you check the final price before comparing them to others. Oh, cos I am feeling helpful - Here are the stores I use regularly. (ps - If I have any problems of any sort they come off my list so they are all good).

Any others that people think are good... post them here. :-)

RE: Ebuyer advice

Used them loads. Never any problems whatsoever.

RE: Shop Dummy

I was a bit confused too.

RE: which is the best downlaod program ?

To be honest. None of them. I use:

Kazaa, Morpheus, EDonkey2000

All are slow at most points, mainly cos of dial-uppers taking all the dl bandwidth whilst having nothing for upload. Maybe an elite service is needed for those with more substantial upload capability.

RE: NEW SC2500 FIRMWARE AVAILABLE NOW

Why am I sat here waiting for Bear`s response?

:-)

RE: Anyone regrets of buying an XBOX so far???????????????????

Haven`t played a Gamecube yet. Never really liked nintendo though because they avoid the more adult style games that I enjoy playing more.

It could only ever be a choice between a x-box and a ps2 for that reason.

RE: Who has just bought the X Box??????????????????

Hmmm.... I just got quite a large bonus from work. What should I buy.. .hmmm. Then again, I also smashed up my car in the middle of the motorway and I get the feeling that my repair bill will totally outweigh my bonus.

:-(

RE: Broadband/ ADSL- Any reports on either would be appreciated

www.digitalspy.co.uk

Probably the best site on the net for telecoms / television advice.

XP

I`m sure it can get really nasty with programs it doesn't like. Given that I am implementing it in a corporate environment I am very careful to avoid any programs that XP will have a problem with. If I install it and it plays up - It goes back in the pile and I search for another solution or update.

By non-techs I meant users. Usually you put any new operating system in front of a user and even the tiniest differences make them fall to pieces. I haven`t seen any real problems of this type so far with Windows XP, I have even seen some of them using the Windows help system!

As for what line. I am head systems analyst for a very large multinational company. We just finished a test rollout (XP on 2k Server) on a 350 pc site and surprisingly have had very few problems at all. Amazing considering we moved up from NT4 on NT4 Server. We had originally planned to move to Win2k last year but the bean counters had their way. :-(

I don`t know. Maybe it has been putting up with the inadequacies of NT4 that makes XP seem great, but whatever it is. I like it.

Btw. I use Win2k machines on a Win2k server at home, so it isn`t quite good enough to drag me away...

RE: XBOX

Quick answer:

Yes.

RE: Who has just bought the X Box??????????????????

I was actually really impressed with windows XP, and thats a professional opinion. For a consumer level OS it is very well suited - I`ve seen a number of non-techs get their head around it really quickly and it`s a hell of a lot more stable than the previous incarnations of their desktop os`s.

Also, some of the new administrative features for IT peeps such as myself are a welcome addition.

RE: Problem Neighbours! Totally Off topic!

Hmm... see if you can get some free legal advice. You may be able to take the local council to court for dereliction of duty. I can assure you that this way is a lot safer than trying to get the scumbags nicked.

It wont take long for your local authority to run scared and move you someone else.

Local newspapers are good for this too. Does the western mail cover your area?

RE: Scan 2500 - the current position

DarthB0b - Can you post the link to the sc2500 forum please?

RE: Who has just bought the X Box??????????????????

Well... depending on how much tax I get back this April I am seriously considering getting one of these. I don`t know. It`s just the first console I have seen that I have sat up and said - Hey, not too shabby.

RE: Whats the minimum spec req to run Windows XP ??

I work for a very large phama company and we have just begun working on the rollout for Windows XP. The original spec for PCs was put down as P90 with 128MB Ram!!!

Screw that. I got them to change it to a 1ghz machine with 256. There is no way in hell I was gonna support all those nasty old machines, and this way we get to get in a complete new fleet of over powered monsters for my seti crunching. :-)

Seriously though, go to the MS site. Read what they say is the minimum, and don`t use any less. My reasoning, it`s not just the OS you will be trying to run - It`s everything else on top of it that will eat up your processor cycles.

RE: Network card for broadband

Personal recommendation: 3com 905x

These things are bulletproof and just about everything supports them. Expect to pay slightly more though.

RE: Who has just bought the X Box??????????????????

Given that it`s just an nforce board, with some memory, an old intel processor and a non-reusable harddrive and dvd-rom then there would be absolutely no point in doing this.

Either your mate is a moron. Or a lier.

He`s probably just breaking it for the fun of it, but doesn`t want to look that much of a prat.

RE: Scan 2500 - the current position

Oh yeah... Is the review almost done yet?

RE: Scan 2500 - the current position

...and as a polite answer to your question Bear. Yes, it needs it. To be honest, I`m not even sure if the method that was given to me for re-programming worked. I haven`t noticed the problems since, but they were intermittent to begin with so I can`t be sure.

RE: Scan 2500 - the current position

bear... do you really have nothing better to do? With the time you have spent bitching here you could have reprogrammed the damned 2500 yourself!

RE: Whats this Blue Ray disc thing. Its not going to mess up DVD`s is it????

Yeah... and with this one, all of the manufacturers have decided on a standard spec for the recorder too. So we should actually start to see recording units fairly quickly.

I want to see the terabyte disc that is being developed. Might not get used for DVD stuffs, but I would kill to get one for the PC.

RE: Does any high street retailer price match online stores

No... not in my experience. They tried doing it in one place I worked, but you would be surprised how easy it is to set-up a fake online store. :-)

RE: Happy St David`s Day to myself and Roger!....

`nother boyo here. Happy St David`s Day (Dydd Dewi Sant?) to all the Welshies out there!

RE: Scan Sc-2500

The update worked fine for me... and oh. For some reason my Sc2500 doesn`t need any code to play other region DVDs. Very strange.

RE: What`s the sweatiest film ever made?

You fools! It has to be Airplane!

RE: My Girlfriend is a Cheating Slut!

Ack no.... start with the sister first!

RE: My Girlfriend is a Cheating Slut!

Actually... I find that women cheat more than men in my experience. Either that or they are better at getting away with it! It happens to most of us at some point or another.

Time to get that little bit harder, that tiny bit less trusting and move on to have some fun!
