Double Academy Award winner Michael Caine has rarely looked cooler as the well dressed heavy, attempting to uncover the facts behind the death of his brother, in this hard-boiled thriller. The film tracks Caine as he becomes embroiled in the sinister underworld of crime and pornography.

John Osbourne stars as the flesh peddlers` ringleader, whilst sultry Bond girl Britt Ekland sizzles as Caine`s London girl.

Get Carter`s powerful combination of violence and corruption, with its dark portrayal of England, especially Newcastle, signalled the end of the sugar-coated 60s, ushering in a more cynical style of filmmaking.

One of the great British gangster films ever to grace the screen. Michael Caine has never been better in the role of Jack Carter, the London hardman going `up north` to Newcastle to find out who killed his brother.

Beware the commentry by Mike Hodges, which lacks any genuine moments of inspiration. The same for the Wolfgang Suschitzky, the cinematographer. Only Michael Caine`s contribution saves it. Unfortunatley, he does not take part often enough, but his anecdotes are endlessly fascinating.
