Aged just 19 Russell plotted himself on the comedy map by getting to the final of Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny? competition in only his fifth ever gig. Since then, things have been pretty hectic...
Russell has been busy cementing his place as one of the hottest properties in comedy with his BBC6 Music show every Sunday, loads of Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks on BBC2, Would I Lie To You? and two series of Live At The Apollo on BBC1, Law of the Playground on Channel 4 and Tough Gig, The Brits and The British Comedy Awards on ITV, phew...tiring.
But it is on stage where Russell really storms it. A complete sell out at Edinburgh 2004-2006 Russell sold every ticket of his 2007 run before the Festival had even started and couldn't add extra dates fast enough. His first nationwide solo tour of if.comedy and Barry Award nominated show 'Wandering' was a complete sell out success.
His second solo tour 'Adventures' in Autumn 2007 was again a complete sell out including selling London's Bloomsbury Theatre out in a day before adding three extra shows sold out shows. Due to overwhelming demand, nineteen final extra dates were added to 'Adventures' for Spring 2008 including a sell out homecoming gig at Bristol's 1700 seater Colston Hall.
2008's 'Dingledodies' tour was the biggest yet and included 3 nights at the London Hammersmith Apollo and Russell's biggest single gig to date at Wembley Arena.
Due to phenomenal demand, Dingledodies was twice-extended and saw Russell play to over 125,000 people. To top this off, Russell's debut DVD - Russell Howard Live - was one of the best selling stand-up DVDs of 2008.
Russell's tireless energy and joyful enthusiasm for his craft make him a prolific stand-up favourite. Recorded live at the Brighton Dome Theatre, this show is the must see comedy event of 2009.
