Review of Ferris Bueller`s Day Off

7 / 10

Introduction

When the opportunity arose to get hold of one of my favourite 80’s films to review. I ‘surprisingly’ jumped at the chance.

What we have here is one of John Hughes essential 80’s movie’s (along with Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Planes, Trains And Automobiles etc.).

It’s one of those films that just shows how much fun someone can have when they bunk school (I never remember my days off being anything like this) :-)

Video

The film is presented with a very good 2.35:1 anamorphic print that for the most part makes a very good job of the film.

There are some small instances of a little dust and artefacting but there quite minor and do not distract from the film.

Audio

The film is presented in remixed Dolby Digital 5.1.
The soundtrack is good and accompanies the film well. However this film was never going to push you sound system anyway.

There is however some good use of the soundstage throughout.

Features

We actually get a little more here then you bog standard trailer on this release.

We also get a rather interesting full-length commentary recorded by John Hughes talking about the film, how it was made and looking back at. In my opinion its a worthwhile addition to the disk and contains some very interesting insights into the film.

Some more extras would not have gone a miss, but for a back catalogue release like this a commentary is something of a novelty.

Conclusion

If you have never seen this film then watch it. If you have then you probably own it on video.

If not then pick this disk up. It is without a doubt the best version of the film you can buy.

Overall, it a well priced release (you can get it for around £14.99 in the high street) and contains a worthwhile commentary so what more can you ask. :-)
