    Review of Code of Silence

    3 / 10

    Introduction

"Code Of Silence" is a Chuck Norris no-brain action picture without benefit of his usual martial arts exhibitionism. An MGM bare-bones release (that means only subtitles and a trailer as extras), there is little to recommend.

Norris plays the "good cop", fighting the fight against warring bad-guys. Finding himself in the middle of a drugs war, Norris`s character is so charmless even his fellow cops detest him, while his Chief wants to replace him with a robocop-tank thingummy called "Prowler". The only noteworthy thing is the rep from the robot company demonstrating the "Prowler" is John Mahoney, better known as Frasier`s Dad. Maybe that`s how he got the gammy leg?

Charmless, with a high body count and low intelligence quotient, the film staggers from one set-piece to another culminating in a warehouse battle that has Norris and robotank Prowler fighting side by side to rescue the perky damsel in distress played by Molly Hagen.

Too much testosterone, too little style. There`s one good line - "If I want your opinion, I`ll beat it out of you", but I`m pretty sure that`s been ripped off from a better movie.

    Video

An unimpressive 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer. I wish I could say more, but without the swearing and squared off, this could be an episode of an eighties tv cop show.

    Audio

A very basic DD2.0 Mono mix with nothing to make it stand out.

    Features

Only the trailer (4:3) and multilingual subtitles.

    Conclusion

One of the early works of Andrew Davis, director of "The Fugitive", I would expect better. Then again, the handicap of woodentop lead Chuck Norris would defeat any great director or script - not that this movie has either.
