    Review of Portrait of Jennie

    7 / 10

    Introduction

From director David O. Selznick this is yet again another typically over directed, overproduced 1930s melodrama that is also an absolute visual marvel just like his earlier Garden of Allah.

    Video

This full frame presentation is another PT Video gem. No noticeable artefacts at all, and the colour, when present, just jumps right out of the screen. Blacks are strong with a slight halo effect on very bright whites. Outstanding!

    Audio

Another oldie and another not so good mono 2.0 track. Slight crackles throughout the presentation do distract, but on a whole it holds very sharp and clear.

    Features

Again, just the basic cast biographies and stills galleries.

    Conclusion

Another lovely movie from time gone by. It`s kitschy, corny and 1940s through-and-through, but it`s entertaining for those with a heart. The disc glistens with a fabulous video transfer, and I can`t really knock a 53-year-old soundtrack. Watch and marvel at this Selznick masterpiece with flaws. On a medium that lets it shine forever.
