Review of Don Henley: Live Inside Job

    8 / 10

    Introduction

As a member of The Eagles, Don Henley was staggeringly successful, and he has done well as a solo artist following the group`s split in 1982. Henley released three albums in the 80s before a contractual dispute saw him wait 11 years before releasing a fourth, "Inside Job" - hence the title of this DVD.

"Live Inside Job" is a live performance featuring 18 tracks including "Dirty Laundry", "The Boys Of Summer" and the classic "Hotel California" alongside material from the new ablum.

    Video

The video is presented in full-frame, and having been shot last year is very high quality, with no sign of grain or dirt on the print. Obviously anamorphic widescreen would have been preferable, but being shot for TV, we`re stuck with full-frame.

Visually, the program consists of Don and his band on stage and is well put together.

    Audio

The soundtrack comes in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 - I watched the show with the DTS soundtrack, which is superb and up alongside with the best music DVDs that I`ve heard.

The sound has plenty of dynamic range and power, with all channels put to good use during the performance.

The quality of the performance and music is also excellent, with no weak songs during the 105 minute show.

    Features

The menus are nicely put together, but unfortunately don`t lead to any extras!

The disc is packaged in a black Amaray case and contains a single-page insert with the track listing.

    Conclusion

Overall, "Don Henley: Live Inside Job" is a good DVD with good music and excellent sound and picture quality.

Music DVDs are difficult to evaluate, as very few people would buy a disc from an artist that they don`t like, or haven`t heard. In this case, I had not heard a great deal of Don Henley’s solo material before receiving this disc to review, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

    Recommended.
