    Introduction

The USB memory stick. Once the preserve of those who did "something with computers". Now carried by school children to class, salespeople to presentations, academics to conferences and just about anyone else too. They are given away free with newspapers and cereals. They litter trade stands at conferences. There are several littering this desk as I write this (although that's partly due to me doing "something with computers").

So in this crowded market place, you need to do something a little bit special if you want people to buy one from you. One of these things is to have a large capacity (if you can get 512Mb or 1Gb for free from somewhere, you're only going to pay for something that gives you a lot more than that).

Another way to go is to make something very small, so that it has a little novelty value, but is also handy for attaching to keyrings without weighing you down, or for slipping into purses, wallets and wherever else the usual USB stick would be too bulky for.

And this one is small, measuring just 39mm long, 19mm wide and 5mm thick. You can get an idea of this from the image below.

    Set Up

Nothing to it. Plug it in, wait for your computer to recognise it, and away you go. Around 2Gb of storage in something smaller than your little finger.

    In Use

Just like any other USB stick really. Copy stuff to it, copy it elsewhere, back things up, retrieve them. It performs as well as any other Hi-Speed USB device.

    Conclusion

A tiny 2Gb stick with a nicely rubberised protective coating. For just over 5 quid (if you shop around online). With a 5 year guarantee? Surely you can't go wrong!

If you need more storage, a 4Gb version will be available soon, but for most people this is the perfect little (quite literally) USB stick. Just don't leave it near children or animals since they might swallow it!

    It's a winner!
