Laptop Recommendations Required!

SFBANKS (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 27th November 2008, 19:37

Looking for some help and advice. I am in the market for a laptop to replace my 5 year old desktop PC. I am looking to meet a few criteria if possible for my budget, around £500- £600. The laptop will probably never leave the house so does not ned to be that portable.

Manufacturer - Reliable, not fussed.
Processor - minimum 2Ghz dual core
RAM- As much as possible, 3 minimum
Drive - Blu-Ray ROM / DVDRW
Wireless - Draft n if possible
Graphics - Good as I can, not really gonna use for games. 256MB?
Software - Microsoft Work, Full not trial version if possible
Memory Card Slot - SD at least
Screen Size - 15" minimum

I am not sure if I can meet all my requirements, but I would like to meet as many as possible. I would appreciate any recommendations from anyone in the know. I have had a look about but nothing has stuck out.

Thanks in Advance!

Nowhere near the spec that the OP has asked for though.

Getting that spec on that price wont be easy, but if you check out Play.com they have some Acer machines with Bluray. We use a lot of them here at work and they are generally reliable and well spec`d for the money.

One example here, no Works, but enough left over to get Works seperately.

Do you really need the DVR Rom drive to incorporate Blu Ray

Are you going to watch BD movies on 15 inch screen or connect the lappy to a HD TV?

Cheaper here but please check the specs before complaining it isn`t the same...

Does look the same. Leaves enough money for Office 2007 if you have a student or teacher in the house.

Don`t need to be a student or teacher anymore for MS Office home edition (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Only 70 quid from places like PCWorld

don`t both with Works or Office, get Open Office for free, is more than likely to do everything you`d want from office and more. Also it`s more compatible with Office than Works!
