HDMI Cable... (not eBay)

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Monday, 2nd September 2013, 10:21

I tried searching for "HDMI Cable" but was saturated with random threads mentioning HDMI.

I`m after a few 1.5m cables (going to replace all I have) and I`m not going to pay a lot but I`m spoilt for choice with cheapo leads!

For piece of mind I`d like a couple of recommendations from regulars... build quality I`m guessing will be the only difference we can compare the cheapo cables with.

Cheers
Ross

http://www.thatcable.com/

http://www.kenable.co.uk/ is another I've used

is probably the shop that comes up here most for good quality value for money cables. I've used them no prob for hdmi and other leads.

queue the debate for cheap vs expensive, but try your local poundland, tescos etc

I think there is a limit to how cheap you should go, on my HD projector with a really cheap cable I noticed sparklies appearing on plain backgrounds that went away with a slightly more expensive cable.

Also my amp couldn't sync to a signal on a really cheap cable either.

But I didn't have to spend that much more, still only about £4 for a 1 metre one.

Agreed Rob - I`d never buy the cheapest, I always like to find a sweet spot between cost/benefit... The site admars suggested (thatcable) has a great 1.5m cable for £7.99 delivered.  Unfortunately my only CC registered to my new flat is my AMEX and they don`t take it!

Cheers admars

thatcable have an ebay store, I know you said you didn't want ebay, but its the same seller. Amazon have their own range of cables called Amazon basics, I've got one of those & its fine, think they cost around £4.99 for one.

I`ve got two 5m and a 3m with a join running amp to projector from thatcable.
SkyHD has the one it came with, ps3, xbox and TV tonamp are all £1 cheapies from poundland with absolutely no issues including 3D playback.
PC also to amp with poundland cheapie.
BD player to amp is a cable I had from buying the telly, think I paid a fiver for it.
Spare cable from TV AV2 is also same as BD one.

Only cable I had a real issue with (except cleaning the thatcable 5m end from paint in it) was a 3m £10 Technika brand cable from Tesco that would only run my PS3 at 1080i or below.

I managed to get the cables from thatcable in the end!  They phoned me up when they noticed some failed sales and forced the CC payment through.

Cables delivered; no invoice with the delivery and no email invoice as the order failed and they forced it through over the phone... cables look solid, very pleased with them for £7 each (1.5m).

I'll definitely buy from there again.
