RE: Thought I’d say Hi...

Hi again all.
Thanks for the welcome back, odd how it feels like you can just slot in again and not feel a need to pay a toll of any kind but still be welcomed.

Anyway Ste, mostly just general life. Looking after my elderly Mum has been getting more and more time intensive as well as routine stuff.

Hours turn into days, days into months and before you know it I’ve been absent over 5 years!

So what have I missed?
😁

Thought I’d say Hi...

As it’s been a while.
According to my profile, 5 and a half years.

Used to manage to work, play and be on here more than once a day, now 5 and a half years....

So anyway, logged on and first thing that hit me was the sticky thread for Whoot which was a bit of a kick in the nuts. Had been thinking for the last couple of years (without realising years had passed) that I should log in and see if there was any news.

Hope everyone else is well.

RE: Loft insulation...a query

Sorry Ste, guess I forgot to mention.
This is a new build as in very new, just completed and not got a number on the side of it yet although it has an allocated postcode and number.
(And bloody BT won't show it as available for Fibre even though it's on the same exchange and probably the same cabinet I'm on right now!!)

It's got loads of wierd stuff like a special storage drain under the driveway to prevent flooding the main drains in the event of a storm, doesn't have extractor fans anywhere has special moisture extractors that don't need any power and open when they sense moisture etc and let it out into the air then close afterwards... odd when you go for a shower and it's 90% closed and 100% open afterwards!

RE: Loft insulation...a query

Like I said Mark, dont think we'll notice the drop anyway.

Pete.... Can you expand on the build up/support thing? Any way I can tell if this isn't required etc as this place has a few new innovations in it apparently, all based around energy saving/eco stuff.

Jimbo : oÞ

"There`s that word again... is there a problem with the Earth`s gravitational pull in the future?"

RE: Loft insulation...a query

Yeah, thinking exactly the same Ste, need to board it. Haven't had the heating on since we moved in last week do really don't think we'll notice the drop in effectiveness but the space is required for the usual storage of stuff.
(And maybe my projector room or workshop area after the initial year is up :-D )

The space up there is massive and the way it's been built saves having to move anything to make the room.

Will post a pic once my broadband is installed cos for now ahm on me iphone :-/

Jimbo : oÞ

"There`s that word again... is there a problem with the Earth`s gravitational pull in the future?"

Loft insulation...a query

Unusual one, regarding effectiveness.

Assuming the rafters in your loft were (x) in height and the insulation was double that, if you floored the loft area and compressed the insulation (not remove or cut, just compress under the flooring) would it be more or less effective, or just the same?

My head thinks on one hand nothing is removed so it should stay the same, then on the other hand maybe the expanded insulation would trap more air etc.
it's those rolls of rockwool-itchy stuff thats been fitted but it's apparently very very high quality.

My head hurts thinking about it!

Effin ticketmaster strikes again! Angry is an understatement

This time for the Commonwealth games.
After the immense screw up of the first round not allowing me to enter my "choices" and doing it on the phone, to get a call a few days later saying it wouldn't go in so let's try it again, to the same again a week or so after that...
Which I thought had gone OK and I just wasn't successful cos I heard nothing about it, to then find out a SECOND round was offered to unsuccessful applicants before the latest final round (I didn't get the second run or an "unlucky" email so I guess the original application was indeed screwed up.)

Now in the final round I try all day to get through and then finally realise a different number for Disabled/Accessible so ring that... order taken but a "colleague will ring back for payment ect"
2 hours later, nothing. Ring again and guy on phone says doesn't know why that happened and literally bends over backwards to help me. I mean he tried everything eventually culminating in the day AFTER I originally wanted but same event (Gymnastics for Mum and friends' daughter) and as he couldnt provide a wheelchair space with carer he got me an "accessible" seat with carer. Also needed 4 more tickets and it was explained they wouldn't be together but orders with disabled/Acces. tickets were dispatched together and they would do their best to have them close as possible.
(It's the Hydro so could be a couple of rows back, could be the level above... can deal with that as long as I can get back to mum quickly in an emergency as my friend and I will take turns sitting with her)

So yesterday I get a Royal Mail despatch text... wtf thinks I.
Then realises "oh, CW games tix...great!"

No Accessible ticket or carer yet as they haven't been printed, it's the other 4 on the order.

I exploded on the phone.
THREE ROWS from the VERY BACK and TOP of the Hydro on level 3!
If you try to book ANY event a warning comes up that Level 3 is accessible only by stairs (quite a few btw) and is not suitable for persons with vertigo or young children.
2 of those tickets are for children, one is 5 the other is 7!
Actually 3 of them are kids but I paid for the 15 y/o just to make sure it didn't screw up again even though I didn't have to pay for her.... and guess what?
Screwed again!

Told them that even though I have no idea yet where the other two tickets are I'm not accepting this as this cannot be further away on a vertical line and might be opposite side horizontal too, there's no way in an emergency situation myself or my friend coud get from those seats to my Mum if needed and would have to rely on Stadium staff.

They're apparently going to get back in touch once the other tickets are allocated. This one just might go that bit further if they don't sort something out....... (and I can't see the mighty Ticketmaster doing anything like that)

RE: [VIDEO] Godzilla (2014)

It's unbridled mince.
An American disaster movie with the usual "hero" soldier defying all the odds, two wierd looking nasties that made me think of some kind of cross between Alien and Predator culminating in a visit from Barney wearing a spiny suit.

Thank gawd I got my screening tickets free, waited til now to post so not to spoil the event for others.

Yanno I've seen this before and I can explain it.

RE: Prince playing SECC Hydro 22nd May

Pity my presale access is hydro only bit might be worth checking flight prices etc especially before the airlines get wind of the dates.

If you changed your mind and came into glasgow airport you'd only need to sort overnight accomodation and yer food/drink bills lol.

And as an annoying little extra bit, so far EVERY customer except one I've picked up from the hydro have said it's immense, good view from even the crap seats and the shape makes yer bum wobble to the bass beats lol.

The one complaining couple moaned their seats were right behind a pillar and had a partially restricted view of Simple Minds.... Even though they had been given their tickets for free!!!

Prince playing SECC Hydro 22nd May

So much so that the presale isn't 48 hours as usual, it's 3!
Anyway as I know a certain site Owner is a bit nutty on the Purple Nugget I thought I'd mention this.

Extremely short notice (only announced yesterday) and currently no idea of ticket pricing but if this is something you fancy going to I might be able to acquire the necessary ticket(s).

Fair few cheap/reasonable hotel options about and obviously Id save you the transport to and from venue and airport hassles but like I said, really short notice but lemme know!

[edit] Found the Ticketsoup page for it and it has the pricing listed (tickets for SECC sold through ticketsoup so price will be the same) http://www.ticketsoup.com/tickets/prince-2014-15924/default.aspx remember I have a way into the presale and have a 100% success rate for gigs so far... and a couple of spare tix to Kylie LOL [/editoff]

Jimbo : oÞ

"There`s that word again... is there a problem with the Earth`s gravitational pull in the future?"

Plastic, another pleasant surprise!

And another early screener ticket "free"

Not what i expected until I read up on it and the plot is based on a true story about some University/College kids who get into a bit (well, a feckin helluva lot!!) of Credit Card fraud and Identity theft a few years back and in the course of their "delaings" end up doing over the wrong guy who comes a-calling.

There's much more to it and it's reasonably well paced (again, no real dead spots) and personally think its just the right length time wise too.

Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy from GOT, the lad who gets his bits chopped off) is his annoying as ever self but all the lads give a pretty decent performance.

For me it's not one for the "to purchase" pile but also not one I'd be moaning about paying £7 a ticket for either!

Worth a watch but dunno about a second one....

oh and :

SPOILER:
If pulling off a £10 million diamond heist only gets you two years in the slammer we're all in the wrong bloody jobs!!

RE: Windows 8 users, help?

Again, cheers Rob but I guess you didn't click Mark's link lol.
That's basically what iit says too but it's a touchpad swipe now causing the grief and although I've set the option to disabled it still happens.

"There`s that word again... is there a problem with the Earth`s gravitational pull in the future?"

RE: Windows 8 users, help?

Thanks for that Mark, unfortunately didn't work.
It did lead me to some other links about disabling on touchpads etc., but although everything mentioned was there and I ticked/unticked as required... it didn't work

It's the only thing left bugging the crap out of me and it's when I swipe up on the touchpad from the bottom right corner, not as a swipe just moving the mouse pointer etc. and up pops a greyed over sidebar on the right and a big clock on the left.

Your link did have an app download but I'm wary about things like that in case they aint 100% legit and clean.

Windows 8 users, help?

New lappy has 8.1 installed and as much as I hated the whole interface to start with I'm beginning to warm to it.

The annoying thing though that I just can't get over is the way the side bar interface and the clock come up on screen from the right hand side when you move too near it!
Had a look around the usual customisation areas but can't see a way to disable it.
Any of you tech-heads got the answer?

Gracias in anticipation....

"There`s that word again... is there a problem with the Earth`s gravitational pull in the future?"

Amazing Spider-Man 2 :-D

Well, for once I've gone to a film premier and although the security setup was laughable, the time taken was long and unnecessary and the usual food and drink additions were exorbitantly epensive... I enjoyed it!

There isn't really much "dead" space or weight in the film as it keeps a continuous flow going without getting boring.
Mostly predictable due to it being Spidey but the way the Goblin and other characters were brought in were, for me anyway, done well and innovative instead of just trying to follow a previous effort.

There is plenty of joking about and light heartedness within the movie and it didn't feel long or dragged out, again to me it was about right.

Performances were good and effects decent, this is the first 3D movie I've gone to that actually gave me a feeling of vertigo and slight motion sickness (as in when you go over a bump too fast in the car and go "eurrrgh") when he's swinging through the buildings.
That's a positive point not a negative btw, the 3D has the usual odd protrusion effects but the depth in it as above is brilliant. You actually feel that roller-coaster type drop/swoop when he's web swinging.

Some of the effects used, for example the way Electro comes to life is a bit scary if you have young kids with you but otherwise it's fine.

Would I buy it on BD when released? tbh this time it's a probably when I usually say No and wait for the inevitable price drop. If the 3D variant came out cheap enough I'd deffo add it to the collection as a nice bit of popcorn munching Marvel mayhem.

Oh and of course there was the usual Stan Lee Cameo..

"If the road was clear then absolutely it was the Mazda Drivers' fault, but I reckon the combination of low ride height of the Lambo, and the possibility of a line of cars parked on the side of the road led to the rapidly dimished rection time of both drivers. "
It doesn't matter if it was a 20 foot high Lambo or a 2 foot high one.
It doesn't matter if the Mazda driver's view was obstructed or not, doesn't matterif the Lambo was doing 50 in a 30.
It's the Mazda driver's fault for pulling out over a give way without ensuring the road ahead was clear and safe to do so.

Yeah, from experience, my mk 2 Astra had an almost identical wallop from a Ford Escort tearing down the outside lane of a 3 lane dual carriageway which couldn't be seen due to trees etc.and the cops and insurance company all said the blame lay with me for the pulling out, the speed etc. of the other car, the fact he swerved into me and then "parked" his car on the other side of the road whereas I ended up spinning 360 degrees (very similar to the Lambo here except I think he clips the Beemer which straightens him up again) and the fact he bent the front chassis leg of a 4 year old Astra were of no consequence because the main fault was the pulling over a give way without ensuring safe to do so.

Similar thing to someone just deciding to stop dead in front of you, you rear end them, your fault.

Apparently it's one of those stupid rules that defeats it's own argument as if it was safe to pull out then the acident would not have occurred etc.

Even the damage to that Mazda is bringing back the horrible memories :-/
