It`s a pitty as it promises so much.......but delivers little.

MiCo salute

Rumplestiltskin (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 3rd May 2001, 11:20

Well I have to say that my MiCo has behaved itself perfectly over the past 8 months. It has never failed to play a DVD, and plays all the home-brew SVCDs (on CDRW) i`ve thrown at it.

However when the little chap first arrived it was as dead as a door mouse. The case is secured by a couple of PC-Case type screws so i decided to lift the lid and look for obvious problems. Straight away I noticed that one of the PCB connectors was hanging half off. If this sounds technical - it isn`t really. The DVD compromises of three off-the-shelf boards connected by ribbon cables, and linked to a PC DVD-ROM style `loader` (the coffee-mug holder / disk spinner). These ribbons simply push into sockets on each board. Whomsoever assemled my Mico didn`t push these connectors all the way in. After making sure all the connectors are pushed home securely the system worked fine. So quality control is clearly an issue with the MiCOs - but you do get a lot of player for your money so I`m not complaining.

I have noticed that the remote control can act very erratically when the batteries are running very low but this is an all too common complaint with IR remotes.

Thanks Rumplestiltskin,

I think after my embarrassment of buying an Hitachi 505, the mico will be my next buy.

Should be interesting to see how they match up!

Mico vs Hitachi? Gold vs Silver. China vs Japan. Unknown Quantity X vs s***.

I hope I`m not left with doo-doos on my face!

To Mod:- NO FLAME WAR INTENDED. HONEST!

Right, time to put our feet down here...

ExHitachiowner - You are welcome on these forums as long as you make a contribution. Slagging the Hitachi, the Beatles, or anything else off at every opportunity doesn`t count.

Ironduke - Give the guy a bit of slack - he`s either having a laugh, or has had a bad Hitachi experience - don`t take it personally in favour of the brand !

Now children, behave. If your threads are unconstructive, they`ll start disappearing.

Back to work now... Please move on... Nothing to see here people...

I had a friend who bought a Mico that did this, it`s not the person who sold it to you thought because he sent his back and got a new one. Did you buy it second hand or was it new? It sounds like he knew it was faulty when he sold it to you - then again, he could just be away for a while. I would keep trying to get hold of him. If he said it was it working order before you bought it you can demand a refund under Trade Descriptions, "Goods Not as Described", I think????
