Ricky Gervais Meets... Larry David !!!

The Office, Seinfeld and Curb are among my favourite comedies of all time! The two co-creators are meeting this Thursday on CH4, should be brilliant.

Hopefully this will get Larry more recognition this side of the pond, IMHO he created 2 of the only 3 (non-animated) good American comedies (the other being arrested development)

Anyway just a heads up :)

Ricky Gervais Meets... Larry David
Channel: Channel 4
Date: Thursday 5th January 2006
Duration: 1 hour and 5 minutes

A one-hour special in which the multi award-winning Ricky Gervais meets one of his comedy heroes, Larry David, much-lauded writer and co-creator of the huge hit series Seinfeld and More4`s Curb Your Enthusiasm. Most of Ricky Gervais`s major comedy influences are American.

I have to say that I`m not that confident that it will be great. the more of Ricky Gervais I see the less I like.. I hope he doesn`t spend the whole time just doing his annoying high pitched giggly laugh thing that he does..

Still, mutual respect etc, so it should be interesting. And anyone that can write the stuff with Patrick Stewart that was in Extras..." and of course, I see everything..." is worth the watching.. so forget my first statement - kinda..

It was a good interview imo. I`d never seen any "Curb...." before, so I`m pleased they kept showing clips - I watched 2 episodes (on E4) and it was brilliant - very funny! I`ve got it series-linked in my Sky Plus now... :D

Yes, enjoyed it too. Never seen Curb.. before but have added them all to my rental list.
Thought the `interview` (more of a chat..) was quite good and really enjoyed some of the situations from Curb.. There were a couple of awkward moments where I don`t think they quite knew what the other meant (or even agreed?) but they just kind of nodded and said `yeeeah..". :)

Only 3 good comedies? There was a lot of good comedy before popular contemporary sitcoms!

Seinfeld and Curb... are alright, but neither can hold a candle (imo) to the likes of I Love Lucy, Police Squad, The Munsters, The Addams Family, Married... With Children, M.A.S.H and Get Smart! (to name a few)

Even 90`s shows like Scrubs, Frasier, NewsRadio (especially NewsRadio! :) ) and *gulp*, the consistently derided (but everyone likes it really) Friends are great comedy shows of a caliber equal to the American greats.

And lets not forget the genuis of the *early* SNL.

I`ll leave judgement on Arrested Development til I`ve watched the boxset I (along with everyone, no doubt) got from Play.com. :)

For what It`s worth, I never cared for The Office. Having worked in a cold calling office environment (albeit breifly), it rang a little too true, and just made me cringe. Although that`s definitely a good sign! ;) I do like Gervais, though.

But I think you need to broaden your range, dude.

Some of the clips from the other night won`t have made alot of sense had you not seen the whole episode/series. For example, the swearing scene in the restaurant is one of the funniest in the whole show, but without seeing it in context it probably didn`t make alot of sense. (The chef was brought in at the last minute, but they find out he has tourettes).

Glad it will have picked up some new fans; it really deserves to. Also I hasten to add that you don`t need to start from the first series to get into the show.

I know what you mean now Whoot. Still, I enjoyed it and will have to try and watch some of that Curb comedy prog. I think it said a lot about Ricky G when he revealed that George Castanza is his favourite ever sitcom character.
Pete :)

(Now who`s the poster on here with George`s Christmas card?.........Hmmmm)
