Is The Tobacco Industry Secretly Paying For.......

TV programmes to be made. What other reason could there be for so many smoking scenes being filmed?
Take the programme the other night "The Ghost Squad". There were quite a few close ups of the cast puffing away at a cigarette. What important part of the storyline does scenes like that show?
Are the programme makers trying to make smoking look a cool thing to do?

Well if they want the film/show/broadcast to be at all accurate, then they HAVE to show smokers...it is what happens in real life. You could use your point to say that the drinks inudustry funds Eastender, Corry and Emmerdale, because pubs are focal points.

If we think smoking on TV sets a bad example (which I guess it does ??), and think we should not allow it, where do we stand with violent games and films etc...?

The alternative, which is what you may be getting at, is some form of censorship based on subjective opinion making, whereby we only see good, clean living, moral perfection portrayed on TV etc... that can`t be a good way to go can it?

Well whilst we are at it they should also go to the local hospital & watch these same people struggling to breath later on in life or those that smoked years ago & so on & on.........................

Lighten up Brubby! Smoking is cool! Like lung and throat cancer!

Who wants to spend their last years on a sunny beach off the coast of Spain, when they could enjoy it lounging around in an iron lung?

Mildman 2

You commented about programme having to show smokers because it happedns in real life. One big problems with this is that they are not filmed in real envirnoments. American friends of ours were watchign a film with us in which the main character was smoking during a scene supposed to be outside a government building. In reality they would have been arrested. (Also when was the last time you saw somebody smoking on TV and somebody stood behind them with one of those over-exaggerated coughs.)

Yeh, and were they all huddled together outside the building in the cold, lets face it most of todays smokers are likely to drop dead with pneumonia before the big C hits them.
