Far Cry - PC version....still not here!

Miles (Elite Donator) posted this on Thursday, 1st April 2004, 11:14

Has anyone who pre-ordered Far Cry (from anywhere) received their copy yet?

I placed a pre-order with Play.com sometime ago (in late Jan I think). I then cancelled that as dvd.co.uk were offering it at 17.99 instead (although they did say that it wouldn`t be shipped out until a week after the release date).

However, on checking most places seem out of stock/long delays

So has anyone actually received theirs?

If you`ve not recieved it, you should get some kind of refund back from Play.com, as they usually try to have gaming items through your letterbox on the release day.

I have it (didn`t order from Play.com) and the game is just awesome. Probably in the top 3 best I`ve ever played. :D

Yeah go on...rub it in Ben! ;)
Also - what spec machine are you running it on? And does it seem OK?
The demo I had ran at 1024x768 and all settings at medium - and looked v.v.nice so I reckon if it`s running on full steam it would be beautiful

The demo looks bloody brilliant with everything turned up to maximum. Easily one of the best looking games around. No-one has managed to do convincing foliage close up yet though.

If you have a geforce FX graphics card, apparently it will run Pixel Shader 1.1 instead of 2.0(due to the poor performance of these cards with shaders). That will make it look slightly worse.

I`m using a Radeon 9800 Pro(up from a Geforce 4MX 440). Interstingly, I could play the game fine with my old graphics card with everything set to medium. Something tells me it depends quite a bit on the processor for most things then(I`m using XP 2600+ with 512MB DDR Ram).

I`m running the game on 1152x864x32 with everything set to very high, and low antialiasing!! Looks awesome!

Mind you I`m runnning it on a 2.8ghz P4 in a Abit IC7-Max3 mobo and a Radeon 9800 Pro (with 512mb PC3200 DDR RAM). Still, its worth it. Saying that, the game still looks great at a lower resolution, and lower settings.

You should contact Play.com to ask why you haven`t recieved it you know... you`re missing out! By the way the "river" level (about mission 17) is really really cool. :D

It`s actually dvd.co.uk I ordered from in the end (price is £17.99 - but that doesn`t mean much when they don`t send the goods!!)

Anyway, for the spec I`ll have to play around with the settings.
Running an AMD XP2600+, 1GB PC2100 RAM, Geforce 4Ti4600 128MB (Golden Sample) card
As I said - the demo ran with "medium" settings, and even then looked fantastic

I`m sorely tempted to get one of the Radeon 9800 Pro cards...but then I`m also sorely tempted to get a Barton 3200+ and 1GB of PC3200 memory ;) .... this could be an expensive game

Damned good game, the first PC game I`v bought for ages and after an hour sitting around installing and fiddling with the settings I realise why I stopped buying PC Games! Grrrrr! That said though now I have got it running nice and smoothly it is rather good. Definately a big step up from the previous FPS shooters in terms of immersement etc.

Now if only all PC games would just load up and play when you put in the disc like me XBox! :D

It runs like a one legged dog on my PC, even on low settings. I`ve got an Athlon XP 2200, 64MB Radeon 9000 Pro and 512MB DDR. Only other game I`ve not been able to run successfully has been Halo, but thats more down to bad programming than complexity.

Gonna have to get the credit card out I think.

Wad - you gotta upgrade the graphics card mate...it will definitely help

Edit...DVD.co.uk have just said that stock will be in on Monday
Gutted as I`m working in Paris all next week! :(

Aye. I was hoping to hold off until later in the year, but may have to take the plunge. Don`t want to have to splash out again when HalfLife2 and Doom3 etc arrive. Thing is, the autodetect feature in the FarCry setup rates my machine as `medium`.

Can`t believe your complaining about having to work in Paris ! :/
