Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy (pre-1990).

Bill Bailey was funny on his Bewilderness tour (or whatever it was called). I like something a bit different. But aside from him and Peter Kay there arent many good british standups at the mo. Oh and Ricky Gervais. Although thats more of a show than standup. Still hilarious though.

I can only watch Chubby Brown and Bernhard Manning et al in a seriously ironic way. Because, lets face it, they really are s***..well except for UFO...that was pretty funny....

But of all of them Bill Hicks is my favourite by some way. Its all I can do to stop me putting a Bill quote in most threads I post in. But since you asked....

Quote:
They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you`re high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it`s not worth the f***ing effort. There is a difference.

I love Bill Hicks too.

Personal favourite Bill Hicks quote, cos it such a nice sentiment:

Quote:
`Hey! Don`t worry, don`t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.`

His politics stuff is proof he was either a prophet.... or that the Bush family and the Republican party will never change. :D

/don`t worry, he tells plenty of dick jokes too, Skeeter :D

*sigh*

I miss good old Bill (or Beelzebozo, or Goatboy or whatever you want to call him), listened to `Relentless` just last night and, as always, found myself laughing out loud...

Quote:
Hey man, killer idea. Now I`m watching Terminator 2 - you all see that movie? So I`m watching and thinking, there`s no way they`re ever going to be able to top these stunts in movies. Unless... they start using terminally ill people as stuntmen in pictures.

You want your grandmother dying like a little bird, her translucent skin stretched so tight that you can see her last heartbeat work its way through her blue veins? Or do you want her to meet Chuck Norris?

And don`t even get me started on Yul Brynner...

One remarkable thing though, listening to the Bush / Iraq stuff and thinking 1) how what he says rings just as true today, and 2) what a damn shame he died when he did, a very intelligent and insightful guy with so much to say.

Incidentally, having already bought the 4 original Hicks albums (Dangerous, Relentless, Arizona Bay and Rant In E-Minor) can anyone tell me whether the more recent stuff (Oxford `92, Flying Saucer Tour etc) is the same stuff rehashed or is it different material?

If youve got winamp you can go to http://www.shoutcast.com/ and listen to it streamed. You will have to search for Bill. 9/10 there will be a comedy stream playing some of his stuff.
