just as a matter of interest, the standard switchable scart block like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&DOY=3m1&ModuleNo=4724&criteria=
is only about £11.99p in tesco`s :) exactly the same one was also once sold in argos for £25 (i know they are identical as i have both :) )

thought it might be usefull to someone :)

Down to £9.99 at Argos now. I don`t think this one supports RGB switching, I have a near Identical unit (one extra button) which does, I am sure that came from Argos for under £15.

There is also this unit from Scan, which has remote control for £10.56. I suspect that this only provides composite switching though.

wish I'd seen the unit at scan before buying the one 4 all. :(
The size of the box is key for me, because the one for all is so wide, I'm gonna need to rearrange all my av stuff in install it, but i think the scan unit would have fit in an available space.
Oh well, never mind

Hi,

Any idea how well the Argos one works?
Just bought the cheaper one advertised on the argos website from ebay for £5 and it ghosts extremely badly if more than one device is on.

Cheers

Another possibility is this One for All from Amazon
It`s the cheaper simpler version of the Maplins model - no automatic switching, but fully RGB enabled.
The Maplins one allows you to switch any of the inputs to a recording channel but does not allow you to record via RGB, which I think is a problem if you want to record to DVD recorder. You have to have the recorder in line with the digital source to get an RGB recording.

I`ve got the same one too. I have to say it`s absolute junk, and a definite waste of money. Mine has a dogey connection which means that only the left sound channel normally now works. In addition the scart plugs can very easily become dislocated from the sockets. One to avoid for sure! :-(

(On a seperate note... I`m having trouble getting a decent recording (or even live viewing) quality from my HD PVR when connected via my DVD recorder. Could this be something to do with connections? Someone mentioned recording by RBG. I`m out of my depth on this one...)

Edit: have started a new post for this -

odd, both of mine seem fine (inc the one i got from argos about 5 years ago) i have sky/xbox/dvd recorder connected to it with RGB switched on, & the copy option selected to AV3 - AV1 & i`ve never had a scart socket fall out, ever :/

EDIT= sry, i didn`t realise you where talking about a different item :) the one you link to is "just" a splitter, & tbh if using a splitter you can only have one of the devices switched on at a time, as it`s just sending any signals it`s receiving straight through all the scart ports...

I haven`t used the cheaper 3 to 1 unit but this 4 to 1 works fine.
