Help - looking for title of a film set in the Medieval age (circa 50s - 60s?)

Like my heading says, I`m looking for title of a film set in the Medieval (or spurious Dark) age. Notable features of the movie (as far as I recall) were that it had a fair bit of jousting, various unchivalrous goings on, and an evil/menacing boar whose tusk was used to make the tip of a lance after it was killed.
It was probably filmed in the 50s or 60s (I guess). I`ve looked extensively on the net and not been able to find any firm reference to this movie. At a guess, I`d say that it might - just might - be The Black Knight (1954) or Ivanhoe (1952). If you know better, please let me know. It`s one of these films that I saw as a kid and thought was brilliant. Though I`m not so sure I`d enjoy it so much now, it`s still worth the trip down memory lane if I can find out the title.

RE: Have I Got News For You

I`m also in the minority on this one `cos I absolutely hated this episode. Kept wishing that BB would just shutthef***up. Easily the worst episode ever IMO.

RE: Squier-By-Fender Guitar

Well spotted, but drat! Was interested in that acoustic but the price has just jumped back up to £79.93.
Let me know if you spot an SG though.

RE: Free F-Secure Anti-Virus Software for 2 Years

I have AVG, but I`ve found that Avira is far more effective in stopping the bad stuff. It`s also available free.

RE: What did you get in the post today ????????

I registered with the Mailing Preference Service a couple of years ago. Almost no junk mail gets through now. Highly recommended.

RE: downloading

I have used a freeware program called VSO DivxToDVD in the past to convert the avis to dvd files. Playback can be a bit jerky depending on the dvd player that I`m using though. There is more info on this program at the link below. There is also a new payware version now available, but the freeware version can still be downloaded too.

By far the easiest solution for me is to burn several avi files onto a dvd and then play them back on an avi compatable player (sometimes confusingly labelled as mpeg4, divX, or Xvid compatable!). Basic players can now be quite inexpensive. I use Nero 6 to do this. Note that if using this program to burn several avis to a dvd, you have to select the DATA dvd project program, and not the dvd video files program.

RE: Best way to keep cats off yer garden?

I`ve heard that lion or tiger poo is very effective in scaring the blighters off (cats - but I`m sure it would work for foxes too). Of course, it`s debateable whether or not it`s the smell of the thing or just the sheer size that matters...

RE: WHATS THE BEST ANTIVIRUS/FIREWALL PROTECTOR please help..

My (free) version of AVG just expired today, so that may no longer be an option for you. However you could also get Avira AntiVirus for free, and that seems to work pretty well too. For a firewall, I`d recommend ZoneAlarm or Kerio. Spyware Blaster and Spybot - Search & Destroy have already been mentioned. A couple of other useful programs which I use are Lavasoft`s Ad-Aware SE Personal and a-squared Free (NOT a-squared HiJackFree - unless you know what you are doing).

All of these are available a www.majorgeeks.com, in addition to loads of other useful stuff.

RE: Tevion DVD recorder DVD4001 Tuning problems Aldi

The Tevion TDR 4001 has an analogue tuner (ie not a freeview tuner). Therefore you can only receive the terrestrial channels on this machine. Having said that, it has also to be admitted that the tuner is of a pretty poor quality, but I`ve so far managed to get a maximum of four channels (out of a possible FIVE). One or maybe two of these are of watchable/recordable quality.

RE: Trying To Copy From DVD to HDD

Don`t know if this helps, but you can copy any dvd onto your computer`s hard drive, using a number of small programs.
A great program is DVD Shink, available free at the link below:

Another great program is DVDDecrypter. Available here:

RE: Aldi Tevion TDR DVD4001 recorder - recording problems

Thanks for the advice. Have tried recording at two settings so far - SP and EP, and both are pretty horrendous.
I ought to have mentioned earlier that the problem occurs even before any recordings take place. The live feed from devices connected to the recorder have a noticably degraded signal.
Looks like I`ll be taking the thing back to Aldi`s.
The Samsung DVD-R130 is currently in Dixons for £100 (£130 elsewhere), and is looking pretty good!

Aldi Tevion TDR DVD4001 recorder - recording problems

Anyone out there also have the recent Tevion TDR DVD4001 from Aldi`s?
Reason I ask is that I`m having BIG problems with the quality of recordings made via the SCART input. Have tried connecting up my VCR and my PVR, and in both cases the quality of the recordings is absolutely dreadful - look blurry and washed out, like a well worn vhs tape!
Using the scart input is definately the easiest way for me to connect the devices, as this is the only connection that all three share in common.
I`m wondering if I need a modified scart or another kind of cable, or indeed, if this is a typical symptom of this device.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

RE: One for all scart control box was £40 now £15 (or less)

Quote:
Just bought the cheaper one advertised on the argos website from ebay for £5 and it ghosts extremely badly if more than one device is on.

I`ve got the same one too. I have to say it`s absolute junk, and a definite waste of money. Mine has a dogey connection which means that only the left sound channel normally now works. In addition the scart plugs can very easily become dislocated from the sockets. One to avoid for sure! :-(

(On a seperate note... I`m having trouble getting a decent recording (or even live viewing) quality from my HD PVR when connected via my DVD recorder. Could this be something to do with connections? Someone mentioned recording by RBG. I`m out of my depth on this one...)

Edit: have started a new post for this -

To be sure. I normally get my blank media from bigpockets. Having said that I do stay clear of the more obscure and budget brands though.

Digifusion FVRT200 Twin Tuner Freeview box+ 80GB HD Recorder - £70

Have just seen this unit on sale at Big Pockets for a mere £69.99.
On paper, this unit looks absolutely fantastic. However, I can`t vouch for the quality or reliability of the unit, as I don`t own one. So if anyone knows more, perhaps they can post here?

RE: CloneCD takes all night to backup a CD-ROM

Corrupted data on a disc (cd or dvd) can also cause pretty severe read problems.
Was the original disc marked or damaged in any way? Was it a copy - perhaps with data write errors?

ooks suspiciously like ebuyer site... worth a punt if anyone can confirm that techno are nothing to do with ebuyer?

The feedback on digitalspy is positive (so far), and the site is said to be part of Jessops, although I have to agree that the site design looks very much like that of ebuyer.
Begs the question though, what`s wrong with ebuyer? - I`ve bought stuff from them a few times in the past.

On a seperate note, someone else has found a 5% discount voucher for Tecno, which brings the price of the unit down to £85.49.

Is this just an imaginary player from an invisible site, or is it real?

Daewoo DSD9502T Set Top Box + 80GB HDD (freeview twin tuner) - £90

Spotted this on another forum (digitalspy) earlier today. Freeview twin tuner with 80gb drive for £90 (or £130 at Amazon).

Product Description:
# Watch one channel while recording another
# Pause live TV with the 1 hour TimeShift
# Up to 40 hours of recording space
# Picture in Picture viewing
# 7-day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG)
# Subtitle recording and playback
# (WxHxD) 340mm x 65mm x 255mm

PVRs can be notoriously unreliable, but this one so far has been receiving positive reviews. After a long period of holding off making a purchase, I went ahead and ordered one myself today.

Poledancing - Am I being prudish, or not?

The current edition of TV Choice magazine has a christmas catalogue from Additions Direct which features the following item in the children`s toys section:

Quote:
Peekaboo pole dancing kit: 3-piece chrome-plated pole dancing kit [with] dance guide, instructional DVD, Peekaboo garter and dance dollars.

The picture features a young girl (looks mid-teens) in hot-pants and t-shirt, with one leg over the pole [sic], wearing the included peekaboo garter, stuffed with the included "dance dollars".

Now, is it just me, or is this not just a bit sick?
Will anyone be buying one for their daughter, niece, of friend`s daughter this Christmas?

(Blurb on the back page says that Additons Direct is a trading division of Littlewoods Shop Direct Home Shopping Ltd, Liverpool, L70 IAB).

RE: DVD authoring with ProjectX and TMPGEnc DVD Author - audio out of sync

Thanks for the advice.
The raw footage plays back fine on (eg) VLC Media Player. I guess you`re aware that the problems start when you demux...
I`ll take a look at DVDLab, but I hope the programe is easier to navigate than their website! :-(
I reckon that ProjectX could do the job if I could get the settings right - but it`s pretty hard to figure out what they ought to be.
I also tried using TMPGEnc MPEG Editor. I found that it gave the best results so far, although the results were still not good enough.
(Sigh, whatever happened to my life?)
