RE: New Scan Group

Who would possibly be thinking of buying this player?!!!!!!

Trust me everyone stay well clear, Scan are the new Techtronics!!!

Also theres a review of there player in the new whatvideo mag which gives it a poor review.

And its not a great value player, the WharfedaleM5 is only £170 and it kicks Scans Players Arse. Buy yourself a proper branded player instead.

Scans CS is absolutely appauling, like many many people i wouldnt buy from them again , see:: http://www.romulus2.com/vbpro/scan/entries.html
for their customer reviews.

RE: Are you happy with the Sonel macrovision remover?

Do i take it from that you use it when you want to, you don`t leave that cable in constantly?, only when you want to make a backup?.

Not quite sure how im hooking this all up yet. The tv im getting has
a Component Video Input? Anyone else have this?

Are you happy with the Sonel macrovision remover?

Hi.
I amm considering buying this product, I just wanted to find out if everyone was happy with it?, and if it does: "exactly what it says on the tin?".

Also presumably this device replaces your scart cable, Does this affect quality? i.e. the quality of this cable over an expensive scart cable?

TIA

RE: What DVD player to buy???????????

Totally ignore what i said about techtronics!!! lol

I have just read the new thread by mark which highlights that his problem with them is still ongoing and also importantly that a number of other people have also had problems with them. I didn`t realise the problems were so excessive.

I think the consensus is avoid techtronics them like the plague!!!

RE: What DVD player to buy???????????

imo you currently have a choice of 2 players at the moment:

1) New Toshiba210 - problem is it is not multiregion so you would have to buy it from techtronics which comes chipped (this makes it multiregion and will turn off macrovision) price fully chipped approx £225
(see this months whatvideo for a superb review (10/10 for picture, 9/10 sound, 9/9 overall)

If you dont want a chipped player the next best thing is:::

2) Whalfedale M5 (to buy from `tescos` believe it or not) this costs approx £170 and is multiregion already, however if you want to remove macrovision you will then need to buy an adaptor such as: (www.sonel.com £25)

Both of the above players play cdr, mp3 etc etc and are currently the best on the market imo

As you say price is open, In my opinion the toshiba is the best player currently available, it is a real shame these don`t come with a remote hack for multiregion already so you didnt have to pay the extra to get them chipped.

(( Note:: some people on here do not seem to like techtronics, personally i know a few people that have bought there players and had no problems, so i am undecided on them.
I would be interested to hear from people on here that have bought from them and are happy, as i am now considering this tosh also??. - please dont reply if you dont like them, there are enough threads on this as it is!! :-)

RE: DVD`s that will not play in certain players - Is this an accepted norm??

Hi Clayts
I appreciate you`re not connected to Wharfedale, and I do (as does everyone else) very much appreciate the independant site you created, it`s a great resource.

RE: Widescreen choice advice

Sanyo!!!

Sanyo are rubbish IMO, Can`t understand why anyone would buy a Sanyo, Sharp, Hitachi or a Goodmans.

I wouldn`t have a Goodmans in my garden shed never mind my house!!.

:-)

Eltax Speakers from Richersounds - they any good??

Looking to buy an amp and speakers.

What are Eltax like? are they any good, these seem to be the main speakers sold at richersounds.co.uk.

I seem to be able to get a whole Eltax speaker package for approx £200.

Advice anyone, especially from those that have them?

TIA

ps. the one i was considering was :Eltax Silverado:

RE: DVD`s that will not play in certain players - Is this an accepted norm??

Clayts - It is certainly worth mentioning it was the older players on
that webpage.

It certainly put me off the M5. And i imagine other people will read it and be put off!

RE: Widescreen choice advice

lol Only my opinion of course !!!!.

But give me a Sony over a Goodmans, Philips, Sharp, Hitachi anyday!

And i`d like to tell the group:

My name is Phil and I am a name fan.

:-)

RE: many thanks

I think those have all sold out now, theyv`e been discontinued.
Best bet now is the whalfdale m5

RE: Widescreen choice advice

I agree with what was said earlier.

Sharp, hitachi, goodmans etc is just not an option.

It`s got to be a "proper" brand i.e. ::sony, panasonic, toshiba

RE: DVD`s that will not play in certain players - Is this an accepted norm??

but if you buy a half decent player than you really shouldnt have that many problems.

mattski - I thought the new M5 was a decent player?!! :-P

RE: Anyone still have the whattvandhifi March issue??

Many thanks for that. much appreciated

The 32" version is currently £899 in most adverts, so might go for that.

thanks again

ps. i dont suppose anyone here has the Sony 32" ??

Anyone still have the whattvandhifi March issue??

Hi
If anyone still has there March issue would it be possible to tell me the
scores given for the sony KV-28FX65 which was reviewed.

I am considering buying the 32" version.

TIA

RE: I`m feeling very depressed.....

A good point.

I went in looking at Tv`s and found the picture quality to be terrible!

You would expect Comet, currys etc to show the tv`s off at their best?!!!
