Game Set & Match (1988) with Ian Holm as Bernard Sampson

As you will know, this adaptation of the Len Deighton trilogy is very hard to get as Deighton didn`t like it. He prevented further TV airings and didn`t allow video release in the UK.
There is a seller in Australia selling the series on 6 DVD`s. Quality is pretty good considering. Anyone interested check the web site below.

It is sometimes down so keep trying. When you get in click the `Collectable Movies` tab and the listing is about three quarters of the way down

RE: 9 Songs

Response to original poster. Your opinion. Guess you won`t go to see the film so its content needn`t worry you.

RE: Passion of the Christ rated 15 in ROI!

With or without a religious message, this is a very violent production which should be judged on its content. The Irish Censor has given it special treatment, as the extreme violence should have given it an 18 rating automatically.

Passion of the Christ rated 15 in ROI!

I have just bought the DVD of this and see that it was given a 15 rating in Ireland. What`s the thinking behind this? The Irish Censors Office is not usually known for it`s liberal decisions.

RE: David Copperfield (1935) version on dvd info req plz

Yers it amazes me that it has never been released officially on DVD. A pirate released in Taiwan and sold by someone from that country was offered for a while on ebay until someone put ebay wise. The quality it surprisingly good.

RE: Soldier Blue coming on DVD. Uncut?

This from the guy who put the info on IMDB. Posted on another Forum.......

114 minutes is the complete running time at the cinema speed of 24 fps. The cut UK video ran 108:53 (when passed in 1986), with 36 seconds cut.

I`m the person who contributed that information to the IMDB, but that was before the video had been passed a couple more times, in 1999 and 2000, running 109:27 and 109:28 with 23 seconds cut. So 109 or 110 mins would be about right, given PAL speed-up.

Apparently US releases have been cut to drop the rating from R to PG - which presumably involved removing most of the last 10 minutes of the film.

RE: Soldier Blue coming on DVD. Uncut?

Somebody mentioned on another Forum, that the IMDB has the uncut version of Soldier Blue clocked at 114 minutes. Are you absolutely sure this new German version is uncut?

RE: What`s your most treasured BOX-SET?

Love for Lydia. Have always wanted this on DVD.

RE: R1 and Customs- any companies that resend from within EU?

Amazon.com resends from within the EU (Germany) but you still get the Customs charges.

THX-1138 coming on DVD

THX-1138 coming on DVD in September. Here`s some info

Okay... we just had to check in with one last update today. We`ve got more information for you on THX-1138 thanks to an article at Video Business magazine. Here`s a quote:

"There are a few snippets of extra footage throughout the movie, but the main differences in the new version--in addition to digital video and audio restoration--are digitally enhanced backgrounds, cityscapes and crowds of people. Those enhancements add a greater scope and scale than Lucas could generate with the limited budget and technology of 33 years ago, said Jim Ward, VP marketing and distribution at Lucasfilm."

According to the article, the film was in bad shape, and more than 10 months of restoration work was involved to restore it. For the DVD, extras will include the 1-hour long documentary, A Legacy of Filmmakers: The Early Years of American Zoetrope (featuring new interviews with Lucas, Coppola and Duvall, the documentary features Martin Scorsese, John Milius, Matthew Robbins, Walter Murch and Caleb Deschanel), Lucas` original short film Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB, audio commentary by Lucas and co-writer and sound designer Murch, the 30-minute Artifact from the Future featurette on the making of the film, and an isolated sound effects track/branching video, called Theatre of Noise, on the film`s sound design.

RE: Soldier Blue coming on DVD. Uncut?

Exactly. Soldier Blue has never been released uncut on Video or DVD anywhere in the World. Someone from Germany on another Forum claims that this forthcoming German DVD will be uncut.

West Coast Video/DVD Porn producers suspend production

Very sad news. Two performers have been diagnosed with HIV. Most of the West Coast Video/DVD producers have suspended production for 60 days. See link below...

DVD extra rejected by BBFC

A DVD extra for The Howling has been totally rejected by the BBFC!
******************************************************************************

THE HOWLING - FAKE PORN MOVIE Video
Feature
Rejected 19 March,2004. Run Time
Not Known

THE HOWLING - FAKE PORN MOVIE is a bonus feature intended for use on the DVD release of THE HOWLING. It consists of two silent sequences showing women being sexually assaulted. Brief extracts from these sequences, avoiding the most explicit and graphic elements, were employed in the film THE HOWLING during a scene set in a sex shop. In the context of the film the clips served to illustrate the degenerate nature of one of the characters. The sequences (which were specially created for the film) are presented here in their entirety and divorced from their original context. In the first sequence, a woman is assaulted by three men on top of a car bonnet. In the second sequence a woman is tied to a bed, stripped and raped by one of the men and sexually assaulted with a wooden handle. Both sequences exploit sexual violence in a titillatory and pornographic fashion.

The Board's classification Guidelines clearly set out our serious concerns about the portrayal of sexual violence in films and videos and highlight the unacceptability of portrayals which eroticize sexual assault. The bonus feature was therefore rejected.

RE: Soldier Blue on DVD ever?

The TF1 and Canal+ versions appear to be one and the same. See.....

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00004W0OR.08.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

All videos/DVD`s appear be be around 109 minutes. I doubt if the conversion would explain over 5 minutes difference.

RE: Soldier Blue on DVD ever?

The Canal+ version is cut. The complete version is approx. 115 minutes. Actually the most complete version ever shown was the UK Cinema version. See link below.

RE: Soldier Blue on DVD ever?

Thanks for the info. I have found out that there is a German DVD available in German language only (dubbed) running 109 minutes. Please advise on how many minutes the French/Greek version runs.

Soldier Blue on DVD ever?

As far as I am aware Soldier Blue has never been released on DVD anywhere. Anyone know why that is?

RE: Why isn`t any of the R1 sites listing Alien Quadrilogy?

Both the R1 & R2 version of this will not be released until early December 2003.
