If your looking for quiet drives then the samsung spinpoint series are very quiet. Also you could look at the 250 Gb Western Digital WD2500KS. I have the 320GB model in a media PC & its very quiet,fast & runs cool too.

I used to always buy LiteOn Drives but moved away from them due to poor quality burns on various media. I bought a Pioneer 111D last week & am delighted with it. Even better than my NEC drives, which have always been good.

Mine arrived too but seems to be locked to O2 :(

A bit uncertain about unlocking it as apparently you only get 5 tries before you need a cable to do it.

I found my IMEI no OK but am unsure about the other stuff ie

Goto Asda as you get 3 yr guarantee for nothing on VCR`s. Took back a faulty Aiwa the other week (2yrs old ) got a credit note @ 1 store & bought a sanyo for £99.99 @ another one.

They had cheaper ones than that too.

Pioneer DVD 454 (Silver)

I have one of these in silver & am considering sellling. Wondering what its worth? I bought it from Richer Sounds so I can use the extra warranty & trade it in (£90 back) or sell it.

I have the original box cables, etc & its in mint condition.

What do you think?

I just bought one of these online for £154.99 & its great. Plays everything I`ve given it so far: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD, VCD, MP3. I would highly recommend it.

I see the difference is that the 454 has optical output whereas the 350 does not. Looks like the 454 then.

DVD Player Upgrade - help!

I`ve just sold my AIWA 370 & looking for a new player. I`m looking to spend < 200 quid & want it to have the following:

Region Free
Optical & S -Video Output
DTS Output ( maybe standard now?)
DVD,DVD-R,DVD-RW,CD,MP3 ( >=192k),CDR,CDRW,VCD ( SVCD - if possible)

The reason I sold the aiwa was because of DVD-R & DVD-RW probs.

Any suggestions?

I`m going to try a burn on a DVR Datasafe. I`ve been trying it out on a White Label RW. Just to save disks. I`ve heard that Passi Primo & Vob something or another (bundled with the retail versions) are the best for writing. Can anyone point me in the direction of where OEM copies are obtainable?
Actually. I get my disks from the same place they do (locally).

RE: DVD burning on Pioneer A04

I bought an A04 at the weekend but when I record on to a White label DVD RW it plays ok on the PC but not on my Aiwa.

I tried using Smartripper to rip to hard disk and then Nero (latest one) & stomp record max but got the same result both times.

Any ideas what I`m doing wrong ?

I think your missing the point - SVCD is Super Video CD and not just straight forward VCD. Unfortunately, this is definately no-go with the 370 (tried it too).

I decided to buy the Rambo disks from Futureent for 32.97 for all 3 not too bad considering the boxed set seems to be around 50quid
