Ratios - Help needed

I currently have a standard 4:3 TV and a new DVD Dansai 952 player. I want to buy some DVD`s but they all appear to be for widescreen TV`s. I don`t want to upgrade my TV for another year or so.
Please advise which is the best format DVD`s to buy for viewing now and later when I get a new TV. At present I find 1:235 gives very large black lines at top and bottom. Should I buy anamorphic?

Thanks

RE: Dansai Change

My 852 broke and I exchanged it for the Dansai 952. I think it looks nicer than the 852 and works fine. You can make it multi region but I don`t think you can turn macrovision off.

RE: H&B 5415s Macrovision Workaround (sort of !!)

So, are we saying that this workaround won`t work?

RE: H&B 5415s Macrovision Workaround (sort of !!)

Please could you explain exactly what you did, do you need ITV digital? Do you think it may work with say a Dansai 952?

Thanks

Macrovision

I note that not all players have the ability to turn off macrovision in the hacks.
How important is it to be able to turn macrovision off?

The New Dansai 952

My 852 takes about 15mins to warm up and work without buzzing so I have taken it back to Tesco.

How does the 952 compare? Is there a multiregion and macrovision hack?

Thanks

Grease

Can anyone tell me if Grease has been released on DVD yet? I have looked but no luck.

Dansai 852

I decided to purchase a DVD player about 4 weeks ago and looked at this site as to whether the Dansai was a good player. The general opinion was good so I bought one.

I have had problems with buzzing and freezing pictures since. I have read numerous postings with other problems.

So...

What do we think of the Dansai now??????

RE: Dansai 852 vibrations

The buzzing has started again, should I get rid of this machine??

RE: Dansai 852 vibrations

Intrerestingly, the buzzing appears to have stopped over the weekend but a number of DVD`s get stuck in freeze frame and the only way to cure it is to turn the machine off and on at the main switch.!!!!!!

RE: Dansai 852 vibrations

My new Dansai buzzes on certain tracks. Should I take it back to Tesco or will it clear up?

RE: Dansai 852 Seen at any Tesco stores recently????

Bought mine last week from Watford Tesco

RE: decca2110/dansai 852 noise problem

I bought a Dansai last week. I have only used it twice (I only have 2 DVD`s!!) I noticed it sometimes buzzed but would clear if I stop it and press start again. I`m hoping it is just teething?

RE: Viewing on a non widescreen TV with a Dansai 852

MicoMan
You mention that you have a 25"TV and a Dansai.

What settings do you use on the Dansai to maximise the screen when viewing widescreen DVD`s. Or do you just suffer? I zoom on X2 but can you Zoom X1.5?

Thanks

RE: Viewing on a non widescreen TV with a Dansai 852

This is because when watching widescreen you loose over 1/3 of the screen.

RE: Viewing on a non widescreen TV with a Dansai 852

OK but as a suplemental question, should I buy DVD`s that are `Anamorphic` or plain widescreen when viewing on my 4:3 TV?
Are there any advantages?
any advise?

Viewing on a non widescreen TV with a Dansai 852

I have just bought my first DVD player, a Dansai 852. I also have a non widescreen TV that has Scart sockets.
My question is how to view DVD`s without tramlines on 4:3. I bought 2 DVD`s to get started each are Widescreen. I followed the instruction manual in the Player to select non widescreen but it doesn`t help. The only way around is to Zoom the picture to X2.
What should I look for on a DVD bearing in mind that one day I may upgrade my TV.
Thanks
