What rules would you introduce?

Gaffski (Elite) posted this on Friday, 7th July 2006, 23:18

I imaagine that this World Cup forum will evolve into a general football one, so here`s the first `general` subject..

I would like to see the person that gets fouled inside the box to take the penalty himself.

I get so annoyed when, for example, Gary Neville is brought down only for Ruud Van Nistelrooy to step up and blast the penalty past the `keeper. Excuse me, Mr Nistelrooy, but that wasn`t your chance at goal that was stopped was it? It was Gary`s. He should take the pen..

And if a player thinks he`s going to writhe around the floor in agony until the pen has been taken by the team`s best striker, then please see my other idea to put paid to that rubbish here

Rant over (for now) ;)

I think anyone should be allowed to take it, to be honest.

What I would like to see is a relaxation of the foul laws, as seen by this world cup, most matches have had 4-6 minutes injury time even for relatively clean ones. Marginal backing into people, 50/50 challenges with whoever wins the ball being penalised, its been very finniky.

I would balance this out with retrospective panels. Each and every game goes to a video panel and unseen dives, butts and elbows are punished. I think this would stamp out a lot of the crappy behaviour in footy, while allowing for a more free flowing game.

Because the modern game has become so f***ing boring, with its stop start nature. There is only like less than an hour of actual play per game now.

This might possibly work in the World Cup or Premiership, but:
A) There will still be physical contact not picked up by cameras
B) As soon as you drop out of the top flight of football, the amount of cameras covering each match reduces dramatically, so this countermeasure won`t be available to all.

None.

The rules are clearly set out in FIFA / UEFA regulations .

BUT

They need to be applied. One simple rule that is overlooked far too often is obstruction.

Quote:
"A player is under no obligation to move aside to allow an opponent clear and unhindered passage however should the defending player move in to the path of the opponent then a free kick shall be awarded.

Paraphrased but you get the idea.

How many times does a player simply play the ball beyond a defender and then simply run in to the defending player then claim for a free kick when in reality and according to the rules of the game he has not been fouled.

Another example of the stupidity of FIFA/UEFA is the goal kick regulations change of a few years back.
Prior to the rule change the goalkeeper had to take the goal kick from the side of the goal at which the ball left the field. FIFA/UEFA in their infinite wisdom changed that rule and as a direct result enabled the goalkeeper to waste time retrieving the ball from one side of the goal line and then slowly walking to the other side of the six yard box to take the goal kick.

Yes indeed folks, idiots in charge of the asylum.

As I said, simply apply the rules that exist the way they should be applied , no "Interpretation" and no "Ambiguity".

Offside, FFS do not get me started on that rats sphincter of a rule :D

I hate when the goalkeeper has been passed the ball and is about to boot it right down the pitch and a lone player runs on him.

Also European fans should be gagged if they annoyingly go Ooooooooooooooooaaaaayyy! at every f***ing corner.

But what if the player has got a broken leg or something? I think the ideal would be for the player to take it, but it also serves the fouling team right if the best penalty taker gets to take it.

Calm down deary :D

Seriously XFG that is what can be classed as "Pressure Football". Give the opponent very little time on the ball and make him play it before he ideally would want to and hopefully the pressuring team may benefit from a poor or mis-timed pass.

I appreciate that, it`s just that I can never think of a time off the top of my head where it`s paid off!

Rangers V Aberdeen Scottish Cup Final a good few years back.

Ball was played back to Schnelders ? who could not legally pick the ball up but did so as he was being pressured by a Gers player
End result he picked it up to prevent the gers from scoring and from the resultant free kick the gers scored. Not exactly the same but an example of what pressurising a goalie or any player can achieve.

The passback rule to the goalie (xfg, he`s not allowed to pick it up if it`s kicked to him by one of his team) was one of the best things introduced in `modern` times. Timewasting by that means used to be ridiculous..

It`s just the lone player running to try and kick it from right in front of him that bugs me.
