Non Delivery of DVD`s

Barry Shaw (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 9th October 2001, 18:38

Does anyone know if we are covered if we do not receive the disks we order from companies on the internet if we have paid by Visa. I understand Barclaycard cover them but I am not sure if all the other Card companies cover them. This is in the light of non delivery of disks from DVDIMPORT and other companies. Any information is much appreciated.

With any credit card, you should be covered provided the order was placed with a UK company.

Any chance of a page devoted to what`s involved in claiming your cash?credit back from a credit card co. Do you have to have a copy of the purchase page, e-mails to the company etc? As Clayts is ex-trading standards perhaps he could devise something or links. Or is it too complicated because of indivdual details etc?

I ordered s2 dvds from video-now in june 2001.I still haven`t received the dvds and they claim they are not accepting any more orders.Anyway I rang my bank and they said I couldn`t get a refund from the bank because I used a debit card, where as if I`d have used a credit card I would have been insured and got a refund from the bank.

Each credit card issuer will have its own terms and conditions so your mileage may vary. It`s a lesson to us all, never use a debit card with a place you`ve never ordered from before unless you really trust them, it`s like using a cheque and you don`t get protection. Always use a credit card where possible, or ask someone who has one to help you out if you don`t have one.

Most banks/credit card issuers will help if there`s a problem. Amex and Barclaycard offer 90 day insurance and protection on items against loss/theft/accidental damage etc.

Just to confirm what you said. I had a DVD order outstanding with video-now for months. In the end I gave up waiting checked the web site and found out as you did that they weren`t taking any more orders. As I paid by credit card I called Visa and they asked me to send them a letter with a brief description of what happened. I did, and within 6 weeks got a full refund back from them no questions asked.
