Comet Clearance - don`t expect working goods - according to Comet Store

I bid for a TV on the Comet Clearance site and was "lucky" enough to have the winning bid. Well everything went smoothly, the delivery centre confirmed the date and phoned an hour in advance, arrived 30 minutes later. so far so good :)

BUT when we set it up it had 3 nice vertical stripes in red, blue and green...so phoned the delivery cente, guys came back and said "Hmm, tube`s buggered" and took it away. :o

To get my refund I was told to go to a Comet store and also they may do me a deal as said item was not working. Well Mr Store Manager in Slough was the not taking any responsibility and saif "But you bought an item from a clearance site and therefore it`s not likely to work properly is it". Doesn`t matter that it was sold as new with a year`s guarantee. Eventually got refund but no deal. :(

Nice to see Comet staff have so much faith in the products they sell. Wonder which retailer I won`t be going to again!

Now all we have to do is convince everyone else to avoid crappy retailers like Comet and Currys/Dixons.

Only trouble is, they are wiping out the other retailers and so we have no bloody choice!

You always have a choice. There`s plenty of online and independant Retailers, and all I seem to see is people slagging off Currys n Comet pricing and service.

Must be doing summat right....they`re still on the go!

Yeah, the fact they had balnket saturated the market with Dixons, Currys, the Link and PCWorld all usually within a couple of miles of each other, meant the ones close to each other lost the high cost- low return branches.

Thankfully I think most (if not all) staff were relocated into the other chains.

Have to agree with you - UNTIL now!

Had always received good service from comet and comet online were fine - but this guy obviously doesn`t think you should buy from comet clearance!

Hmm, my experience was good until recently I purchased tumble dryer. Didn`t work, spent 3 hours or so to get through to customer services. They insist engineer visits before they will replace. Decided I would return for refund (within the 14 day period they specify). Arrive at store to be told they won`t accept returns until engineer seen it. Suggested they plug it in and switch it on. Nope, they weren`t engineers. Pointed out that device was clearly damaged as horrible grinding noise and dangerous as timer didn`t switch it off. Not interested. Had to say fine, phone me when the engineer`s been and walk away with machine in middle of shop floor. Only at that point did the manager appear and authorise a refund. Pathetic really. Odd too, as I returned some DECT phones the previous week without any difficulty.

Online retailers aren`t much help though if you want to see picture quality on a tv or dvd or hear the sound quality on a stereo before you buy.

And indepedent retailers can be helpful, but some areas have a distinct lack of reputable indie`s. I`m not maligning all indie`s but there are some that i just wouldn`t trust.
