I`m sticking with DVD.CO.UK

I got an email from DVD.CO.UK today:
Quote:
We are aware that some people who have made purchases from us recently have not yet received their items. This is due to an unofficial postal workers strike at the main sorting depot near our warehouse in Oxfordshire.

.........
Quote:
If, in the meantime, you need to purchase your item elsewhere you will be able to return it to us and we will refund you when we receive it. Please send it with your order reference number to:

Now I don`t know about anybody else, but although I`ve been waiting for a full two weeks for my Buffy Season Seven boxset, I`m not going to penalise the gang at DVD.CO.UK for Royal Mail ballsing up its industrial relations with its workforce. They`ve always been one of the best mainland DVD etailers, and who knows what damage this action is causing them. I sincerely hope they`re able to weather this business and they`ll continue their sterling service for many years to come.

Ha
That must be why I am still waiting for my DVD ordered on 23rd March, though I have had no such email.Only the following reply to one I sent........

Quote:
Thank you for your enquiry.

Your DVD was dispatched on the 23/03/04 by first class mail. It should be with you by now, although we have had instances where due to some problem at the Royal Mail, a product takes longer to arrive.

It is extremely unusual for an item to either not turn up with our customer or back here - we usually find some logical explanation for any missing items.

I'm afraid the first step must be to check with your local Royal Mail Depot as it may have been retained there for some reason, for example if it would not fit through the letterbox. In these cases, the Royal Mail does not seem that efficient at letting people know.

If the Royal Mail cannot find the parcel please email SNRUTER[at]KU.OC.DVD confirming this. We will use this email as evidence for any investigations made with royal mail and as confirmation of a lost parcel.

I am sorry that you have experienced this problem. In order to keep our prices low, we try to avoid expensive alternatives to plain First Class Royal Mail

Would have been nice to have been told.

I was in the same boat as you with Buffy Season 7 from DVD.co.uk. It finally arrived today, nearly 3 weeks after being posted. I wasn`t going to penalise DVD.co.uk either so I waited.

The strike in Oxford is pathetic. If postal workers have problems at work then that is unfortunate, but they shouldn`t be holding the public hostage because of it. You don`t see people in the private sector striking if they have problems at work so what makes postal workers any different, along with train drivers, bus drivers, etc. It`s the 21st Century!

Having talked to Royal Mail about this I`ve been told that the sorting office in Oxford is one of the most militant ones there is and go on illegal strikes at the slightest opportunuity. Unbelievably the illegal strikers actually kept on striking until RM agreed to pay overtime to clear the post backlog, a backlog created by the strikers in the first place!

Along with Play, I find DVD to be pretty decent and reliable.

I`m still waiting. :/

I`d take anything Royal Mail says about its workforce with a pinch of salt. If they`d redeployed the manager at the centre of the dispute in the first place, the action would have never escalated. They may have militant staff at the Cowley Mail Distribution Centre, but they have useless management with no idea of compromise as well. The overtime issue is that RM expects the strikers to work overtime hours without the pay, which I`m sure you`d be happy to do as well. :)

If these people don`t like their working conditions then they have the same option as me and a lot of other people - quit. Might seem a little `Mr. Pink`, but I have been on the receiving end of a crap postal service for far too long.

If everybody who hated working in Royal Mail quit, there`d only be Adam Crozier left. ;) I`m sure a lot of people in sh*tty jobs would love to quit and find another job but some people have committments that mean they can`t risk being out of a job for any length of time.

As everybody knows, I`ve had family experience of Royal Mail and I know that without the management culture there, the service would run very smoothly and without trouble. As for working there myself, I`d frankly rather sign up for medical experimentation.

Well, at the risk of sounding flippant, think yourselves lucky you are only waiting for DVDS.

I live in oxford and I get paid by cheque (long story). It arrived 2 weeks overdue. Plus the week it takes for it to clear, im in a bit of a bind. My account reads

Balance: 1295
Available funds: 25

And all my NTL DD`s are coming out within the next few days. For which i am certain to incur a bank fee for. Anyone know if i have any hope of getting the charge paid by RM?

Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent.
Forty percent of all people know that.
