Unlocked iPhone - What happens when iTunes tries to update...?

Mildmanb (Competent) posted this on Monday, 21st April 2008, 19:38

Hello,

As the title says really, when Tunes updates it (or tries to, can I stop it?), will I no longer have a unlocked iPhone?

Hope someone knows.

Neil.

You can stop it from upgrading automatically. However Ziphone should unlock your phone to 1.1.4 the latest firmware - so in essence nothing will happen. Back-up your stuff to make sure.

BTW they`ve unlocked 2.0 already and it hasn`t even been released yet!! and new Iphone 3G due in June.

Go for it. I have an unlocked iphone and its all good. itunes gives you the option to upgrade or not. Its that simple.

There is so much you can do with an iphone, you will love it.

You will have an array of apps that you can download all for free.

Got loads of space for music and you can even put full movies on there. Takes about 400 mb per film in good quality. so for an 8gb , well you can do the math :)

Thanks both!!

Have got it and unlocked it and as a previously anti-apple person (for no reason, as I`ve never owned/used any of their products), I love this iPhone dearly. At £169, I feel I`ve robbed Apple!!

What can you recommend and where from?

Thanks again,

Neil.

Depending on what you used to unlock it, you might have an app called installer installed on your iPhone.

Select it and it allows you to download pretty much every hombrew app written for it. If you havent got it, thats the first thing you should get as it avoids a lot of farting around.

Other than that:

Iphysics
Pocket guitar
Drummer
Sketches
iSim (you need this to get your contacts off your old sim card)
Pocket Touch (lets you skip ipod tracks in your pocket without having to unlock the f***er every time)

If you mean Cygia?(sp) for the installer, then yes. I used iLiberty+ (windows)

Without having looked at the installer, where will these applications be, or should I come back to you after I`ve done my own investigations?

Thanks,

Yeah, if you tap installer, its basically a browser. You can browse all the downloads available, tap one and it downloads and installs itself.
