converting MP2 to MP3

pat-w (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd October 2007, 18:03

Hi
I've just got a Bug DAB which records in MP2 format.
Been trying to find something to convert MP2 to MP3 files, but I've not had any luck so far. I found that I could convert MP2 to AAC using itunes, so I can then burn to disc, and then rip to MP3, but I'd rather just convert straight to MP3. Can anyone recommend something to do the job?
Thanks all

Edit
found something called Switch, seems to work okay.
Now i just need to work out how to use Audacity so i can trim recordings... :/

Edit (again!)
Well, that was simple, this link for anyone whos never used Audacity like me.

you can use iTunes to change the MP2 direct to an MP3, if you set the
Preferences/Advanced/importing option to MP3 rather than AAC. then simply import the file, it should be automatically converted. If it imports, but remains an MP2, then simply right click on the file, and select Convert Selection to MP3.
This should work as a friend of mine has done it from files derived from a PURE DAB system
