Wutank - how old is the machine?
Did they not give you a rebuild disc? (Or perhaps instructions of how to get into the rebuild menu if its built in to the bios)
Failing that, assuming you have a sticker somewhere with the Windows XP licence on it, then you just need a copy of Windows XP OEM (assuming Home edition) and you could install using that licence key.

If its a straight re-install, (ie no hardware changes) then there are a couple of files you can copy from your machine to stop you from having to re-validate/activate the copy (Google it for details...think its a *.wpa file and one other, sorry, can`t remember the details :D)

As for the music, external hard drive perhaps? Or quite a few blank DVDs :D

If you have a blank dvd or 2 there might be an option in a menu somewhere to create a recovery disc - there was with a friend`s Acer.

hi mate, only just noticed this post :) msn me (don`t worry if i "appear" offline, i`ll still hear the ping)

if it`s a new machine you should deffo have some software with it ? or at least a hidden partition holding the factory install, as for the music, there are a couple of options ranging from dragging them onto a second drive, to backing them up onto dvd (doesn`t take as long as it sounds, i recently dvd`d over a terabyte :/ )

done it last week hears what i had to do: Turn on pc, during boot a blue bar with www.Dell.com appears across the top of the screen, you`ve got to be quick.
when you see it press <Ctrl><F11> if you don`t catch it go through to the windows page and then click restart and try again,
when you reach the page you`re after press Restore, then Confirm.

if you have a TAG number that came with your pc, go to DELL support page and you can download the owners manual for your pc.

Cheers Mick
