Quickest way to clean up mp3 tags?

1mills (Elite) posted this on Monday, 11th December 2006, 00:28

Currently trying to sort out the tags on a load of my songs, is there any quick ways I`m not thinking of?

I`m basically searching my album or artist and mass deleting info where possible, but is there anything I`m not aware of?

I`ve got around 25gb of music so it`s a mission because I`ve only recently started cleaning them up :/ A lot are ripped from cd so are just track 1 and I realised I am f***ed on them >:(

But the one`s that I am currently trying to do are downloads that have stupid album titles or slightly wrong artists so they are not all together (eg. Automatic instead of The Automatic)

Edit- Plus how do I change the art for artists? I now for albums you just drag and drop but for artists it won`t let me.

For batch renaming/tag creation, then I use TagScanner. It`s free and really good - but not idiot-proof (it`s not *me*-proof at least. :D)

Not sure it`d be *exactly* what you`d need for all your tidying but I think it would definitely help with some parts of it.

Cheers, it`s helped clean up some.

The main one`s that are annoying is I ripped so many cd`s ages ago, before I even used the tags so now it is a nightmare to go back. :/

For some reason half pick up the track title as the full file name, so they are quite easy to change quickly but the majority are track1, track 2 etc :/ Strangely some albums are half and half.

Is there anyway I can make the tag pick up the file name for the ones that don`t automatically?

Try a program called MediaMonkey, it lets you mess around with tags. You can take names from files names, rename files using the tags and it even will lookup albums on amazon for you ( auto tagging and cover art)

Thanks for recommending Tagscanner. Being meaning to sort out all my MP3 filenames since I got my Nano. Just done it.

For editing lots of files to have the same info (eg album title, artist etc.) is quick and easy but can this add different track numbers to lots of tracks? eg if I have 20 tracks but in the filename is a number - 01 - XXXX etc, is there something to put this information into the `track` field of Windows? And to copy the `filename` to the track name...
